Is it OK to run no spacer on BB?

your problem should be the crank, because its material is softer, than the bb axle.you could change only the crank...or maybe first try to file a bit off the spacer,if the bearings are okay it could be a bodge

Echo press fit bb?

I thought it may have been the bearings there movin around in the frame, but that is definitly nit he case i have checked that many times.. After riding bikes a while u get used to the feel and sound of certain problems. This is definitly crank wobble... As i call it..

A mate is running one without spacers, done it for a month or so now. He's having no issues, if it ever gets a bit loose just slap the spacers back on, then tighten the bb back into the frame then take them out again if you feel you need to.

Ill save no spacer as a last resort. I allways cary a 8mm allen anyhoo

Oh btw, do u know if STAN TI crankbolts work wih my stylee BB? I was thinking a 10mm key will be better/longer for more torque... Im putting like all my 8.5stone on the 8mm lol and its still fighting back..

What torque should i be using on crankbolts?

Surely the spacers on the Echo BB are there to stop play developing too?

They're press fitted bearings, and with enough sideways umph it could shift them a little.. the spacers butt up against the outer surface of the inner race to stop that happening. As you tighten the crank bolts it pulls the axles bearing seat and the washer together on each side of the bearing race to stop that play developing.

Put the spacer back in, but maybe file/grind away at it to allow your crank to sit a little further on. That way your crank stays tight and the spacer performs the function it was designed for.

Thank you for the reply's all.

I considered that but I didnt want to ruin my only spacer so I played n tightened n tried cranks in a different position etc...

Seems to be okay with the spacer in maybe im just weak and couldnt tighten it enough.

Cheers.

  • 2 weeks later...

Came a bit loose again yesterday when I was out. Now im worried about stripping the threads or snapping the head off the bolt?

Its an echo crankbolt that has a allen socket all the way through. So if I do break it it will still come out wont I it?
