Lrn2Trial
I haven't tried grinding rims so I can't comment on how effective or efficient they are, but I thought I'd post this to give you guys an "alternative".http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=_9G8HlyJzNA http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=_9G8HlyJzNA Edited May 6, 2013 by Lrn2Trial

picowatt
How does it feel and how does it last?
Martin Reynolds
ive used a 40grit paddle disk on a grinder to sand down parts of my frame and i could possibaly see it working. it wouldnt be as effective as a grind, but it'd properly be better than a smooth rim
Danny00135
Interesting.. I've found a new technique I'll never use.. Unless, you know I have a head injury and suddenly become retarded..
Lrn2Trial
...And then you put your tyre on and contaminate the rim. Siiiiccckkkk I saw a video i think it was TNN rim grinding and he says to leave the tire on to prevent contaminating the rim, but i removed the tire just to take the paint off without the hassle of the tire being in the way, but overall this rim modification is better than standard rims but i cant compare to rim grinding and also because i had the tire off when sanding the rim i haven't noticed the difference between a contaminated rim or if i sanded with the tire on. let me know what you think of this, does it look good or bad, should i stop sanding and start grinding? Lrn2Trial
How does it feel and how does it last? Im new to trials got my first bike in march so i cant comment on how good this method is but i decided to do it after seeing rim grinding. Before sanding when i was braking it was very noisy and the wheel kept slipping through the brakes a little because the paint on the rim was too smooth but after sanding its allot better doesn't slip and less noise. Danny00135
Grinding <3 it was very noisy This is normal, the bite comes from pad wobble, They vibrate a lot more so you get this lout squeak with your braking (most cases)
bing
I used to run flapper wheel grinds a long time ago, its not as good as a proper grind though
Muel
I once did this in order to sand the grind off a rim, because the only pads I had were Heatsink Snowies and it would have eaten them alive. One freshly sanded rim and no booster later, and I had the loudest brake I'd ever heard. It was ear-splitting (literally, it was physically painful to ride after half an hour). aener
I used to really rate Onza Citrus Greens with a soft-pad grind. Think they were about 40 grit.Did it as they were quite soft, but it rained a lot. Turned out real good!
bing
I ran the citrus yellows on a flapper wheel grind, it was ok for me then, but I had no idea about stuff back then. That was when I had my T. rex and the first time I met everybody on the Leeds group ride in 2011. Back when flipp has his Marino
