Lewis Gething
Hey guys, Not sure if this will get any interest here, but I'll try anyway Yesterday me and my good mate Tom made a video of him performing a drum cover of 'By The Way' by Red Hot Chili Peppers. We are both really happy with how the video has turned out, and have learned a fair bit about what to do differently next time. http://www.vimeo.com/65013926 Please check the video out, and leave some feedback if you enjoyed (or if you didn't + why) Lewis. chimpanzyyyy
very nice maybe the editing could have followed a bit more the drum rythm Edited April 30, 2013 by chimpanzyyyy
godbarber
Tell Tom he needs to have more enthusiasm when he's playing! Chances are people won't enjoy watching someone play an instrument who doesn't look like they're enjoying playing the instrument. Get some colour in there as well, seemed a bit drab.
Jake.
Nice filming, shame about the performer, great intro but then he seemed to become pretty absent minded after about a minute in? Compare the atmosphere of yours to this: The filming is terrible but the atmosphere/mood makes up for it loads! Hope that helps man.
JD™
See those drum pads? They're meant to be hit in time with the music. Other than the fact he only hit about 2 beats in the entire video, it was good.
Matthew62
Whoever recorded the guitar and bass backing track should be shot - just awful.
Lewis Gething
very nice maybe the editing could have followed a bit more the drum rythm Yeah, I kept that in mind throughout the editing process, but didn't have many clips for some parts, so I ended up leaving it which explains why there is some 10 or 15 second gaps between cuts Will definitely improve on that next time Tell Tom he needs to have more enthusiasm when he's playing! Haha I have told him that today I think he looks okay whilst playing, but I told him your comment anyway As far as the colour, the lighting was awful (Something I hope to improve greatly as we progress), and so the footage definitely lent itself to monochrome. I'm sure had you have seen the clips in colour that you would agree. Nice filming, shame about the performer, great intro but then he seemed to become pretty absent minded after about a minute in? Compare the atmosphere of yours to this: The filming is terrible but the atmosphere/mood makes up for it loads! Hope that helps man. Yeah Tom doesn't really enjoy being on camera that much, so just zones out a bit Next vid will hopefully have much more enthusiasm. See those drum pads? They're meant to be hit in time with the music. Other than the fact he only hit about 2 beats in the entire video, it was good. Funny stuff. Tom struggled to keep in rhythm as he couldn't use headphones (due to the way we recorded audio. Either that or my audio syncing is sh*t. Whoever recorded the guitar and bass backing track should be shot - just awful. Haha, Tom got the track from this site: http://www.karaoke-version.com/custombackingtrack/red-hot-chili-peppers/by-the-way.html

Either that or my audio syncing is sh*t. I wasn't aiming to be funny. You don't often get headphones on stage either, doesn't make it an excuse not to be able to play a simple beat in time with the music. Especially when it seems (I haven't clicked the link) like you might have got the track from somewhere that was recorded to a click track and, as such, doesn't have any irregularities to deal with. Lewis Gething
didn't want to be mean and say this... But it's true.. Can either of you point out a particular part where he is totally out? I am positive that it is my shoddy audio syncing Edited May 1, 2013 by streetrials24
JD™
Any of the fills. It's not your audio syncing, unless you were changing individual beats. It's like he hesitates at the beginning of fills. It's completely normal, and I suppose if I'm being constructive I'd just say to wait until he can be 100% confident of getting it right before filming it next time Other than that it was fine.
