1337 Trials
Hello! Its been nearly two years now since I finished my BTEC National Diploma in IT. I was hoping to do a apprenticeship after the course but found out I couldn't as I had a level 3 qualification and the apprenticeships are only a level 2 so im classed as over qualified. Im thinking about doing a advanced apprenticeship but the only thing is I think there a level 3 and I have a level 3 qualification? Im finding with applying for jobs im either over qualified or I need to be a senior. Im aiming to be an IT technician. A microsoft certificate would be pretty cool Just wondering what everyone thinks too this and has anyone been here? Thanks
pete_s
I think this will be up to the company that sponsors/employs you. When I was doing my apprenticeship there were guys who had already been to a college or university. Additionally, one guy at my work who has completed the apprenticeship programme and was employed full time as a technician is starting at another place as an apprentice again in a few months time. As far as I'm aware as long as you're under 24 when you begin the apprenticeship it doesn't really matter what level your current qualification is. 1337 Trials
Well bud usually an apprentice is £2.40 an hour and this is funded by the government. The company can top your wages up if they want but it comes out of there pocket. They tend to look at is as why should they fund me when I already have that level grade. I did go to a interview for an apprenticeship and they asked me why do I want to do it if I already had the grade. They told me there was a job at the end of it for sure so I would do it all again to get the job at the end. I was willing to settle for a rubbish wage. Anyway they said "We cant guarantee a job now" lol. It was like a two part interview and one part they said there was a job and the second time there was no guaranteed job. pete_s
Sounds pretty standard to be honest. It was only luck that a position came up that I could apply for when I finished mine otherwise I'd be out on my arse. For wages it's very much dependant on how big the company is. Some of the guys who were at the same college as me in the first year were on £20k which went up yearly. I wasn't so lucky but then you're getting paid to train which isn't too easy to come across!
