Koxx sky 2 project thread

Hi all. Picked up a sky 2 frame last week, she's got a crack on the chainstay/bb join, which appears to be due to a large impact to the bashplate.

Anyway, I've decided to build it up as a comp bike to play on, forgot how fun mod is.

Spec so far:

sky 2 frame

sky headset

sky bash

trialtech forks

front echo sl rim on echo hub

rear onza pro diamond on echo hub

sticky lights

rockman 150x30

neon bb

try all cranks

echo crank bolts

old school sl ffw

hope mono minis, carbon levers and ti bolts, gunmetal

trialtech highrise bars, polished

Will update as more bits arrive etc, with quality photos.

Hoping to get it welded this week, as well as order the remaining bits.

Have you considered getting it carbon wrapped?

Just welding it will do very limited good... Destroys the heat-treatment and what not so it'll just crack again - probably very quickly as they're really light frames.

I dunno how long it would actually last, but Kyle's been riding an Inpulse that cracked all the way through (completely separated) at a similar place that got welded and wrapped by Jaf, and it's still going with no new creaks or cracks 8/9 months later.

Looks lovely. So much nicer than the Sky 3s!

Is that a front mag rim, or one of those weird Echo ones?

I have considered it, got a rough quote off josh for £50.

It's a reasonable price but i don't think I can afford it at the moment. Can weld it for free.

Have had several welds done in the past that have all held out fine, but none in quite as bad a location as this.

Out of interest, how will you manage to wrap in such an awkward area?

Also do you think there's anyway to make it look smart?

Guess he would have to wrap the whole bb area ?

Yeah he'd probably do that and shrink it with a vacuum or something then cut holes out for the bb? Not sure he uses a vacuum or not but it certainly looks like it when I saw some of the work he did to the headtube on some frames.
