trialsbikingnunn
i wanted to raw my anodised purple pedals because they just look gash. Would soaking them in caustic soda ruin the bearings?
Danny00135
Take out the axle and bearings... Problem solved

harmertrials
It won't touch the bearings
Danny00135
15mm spanner on the axle, alen key on the end cap undo it.. Then you should be able to get a socket in there to undo the axle.. But Jack's cleared it up so no need to worry..

BradJohnson
Use an old toothbrush and just scrub away, this method saves your bearing grease from being flushed away.
Jake.
Rawed my orange echo tr platforms like around June last year with Jack reassuring me it'll be fine, still on same set of pedals. ^ With no issues. ooo
You don't need to soak things to be rawed, just fill a cup with warm water and caustic soda and then wear a rubber glove and rub it on using a cloth, it takes about 10 seconds to come off. Also its best to do near a cold tap to rinse off the excess.
AkuskaUK
Would rawing weaken certain items? Such as the forks, frame and rims?
BradJohnson
Good question! I guess it won't, as Joe Maher and Tom Rankin both rawed their Rockmans.
AkuskaUK
I suppose not! I was thinking about rawing all I said, scared that it might weaken it to break since I'm not in any way a smooth rider!
harmertrials
Doesn't weaken it at all, unless you left it in there for a significant amount of time. I'm a raw whore.
Jake.
Well I'm not a smooth rider and seriously it doesn't weaken it, just raw your shizzle. Edited April 22, 2013 by JMCD
AkuskaUK
How long should I leave it on there for? Sorry for hijacking your thread man, easier than making a new one.
harmertrials
A matter of minutes, hot water.
Jake.
What are you rawing? When I did my pedals it took about 30 seconds under the caustic then I put it in a bowl of water. When I wiped my try all rim with caustic it took about 5 wipes. Depends on strength of the mix too.
AkuskaUK
In rawing: Because Color frame, echo urban 2013 forks and front and rear echo tr rims
Blake
In rawing: Because Color frame, echo urban 2013 forks and front and rear echo tr rims Are those forks anodised or painted? Caustic soda won't ruin the aluminium as long as you get rid of it once the anodising has gone, as it can eat aluminium but it takes a lot longer than it does to get rid of the anodising. Rawing frame and rims and stuff should be fine, the only thing i'd be wary of rawing is rim brake bodies, as if you increase the inner diameter of the bore then it can make a leaky leaky
AkuskaUK
Forks and rims are anodised if I recall, thanks though
AkuskaUK
After rawing, what should i do then? polish and lacquer?
Jake.
After rawing, what should i do then? polish and lacquer? I used wire wool and then polished. Never bothered with lacquer.
