wil you be selling the new monty parts individually?

Not for the most part as far as I'm aware. A lot of the parts are pretty much the same products as other manufacturers, but with a higher price tag (e.g. the rear rim, hubs, etc.). Apparently Monty are releasing the frame and fork as a separate 'kit', but I'm not sure if we'll be able to get hold of them or not.

It's got a carbon frame, fork and bars... That's why.

Yes, I know, and I rode it already. But still it's not the reason to explain why a top pro bike with this price mount non top components.

I actually really like the look of this. It's clearly a unique and high end piece of equipment, and it absolutely looks like it's designed to do a very specific job.

It's expensive because it's exclusive. A small amount have to be made because it's ultimately a test of concept in the market, just as the Skye was (and we've seen how successful that ended up) - if you don't want one enough to stump up the cash then fair enough. I don't have the cash and it's not my sort of thing, but to be honest I'd probably have one over any other mod if money was no object just to help Monty to decide that there was a market and continue pushing some boundaries. You've all mostly said it could be lighter, and iterations of it in the future probably will be - that's reason enough for it to exist, isn't it?

Funny how people get a bit odd when something is out of their price range...

I'd buy that if it was money no object, if I was in the market to buy a new full build, it wouldn't be a deng build, I just don't trust it/them. I'd get an onza genesis, or a vox and upgrade the disks to saints

7,88kg 1299 Pounds + tarty Price Match

large_montym54.jpg

7,1kg 2699 Pounds ....

Tarty price match ought to be good as you can get them sl's direct from china for about half the price.. But they snap and ive seen a lot go.

The monty is lighter, stronger, stiffer and just generally leaps and bounds ahead in terms of quality its a no brainer if you want the "best" available.

the first of tarty's price match conditions -

Conditions:

All items being price matched must be in stock in as new condition and ready for dispatch, being advertised by an authorised dealer, who's company is registered with that country's government for trading purposes and the product must be supplied with a full warranty

i interpreted your comment as you were assuming that tarty would do a price match with the china ones at half the price, hence what i said.

according to the echo dealers list, there are no authorized china retailers.

To all these people claiming they'd snap it just by looking at it: just how the f**k would you know?

Sure, they won't be as strong as a non-SL-alloy frame, but you have absolutely no grounds for claiming it'll snap straight away.

Maybe I'll get proven wrong and they'll be a total disaster, but you guys are the ones constantly complaining that trials is so far behind other cycling disciplines technology-wise. How can we move forwards if you'll just shun anything new on the basis that it might not work?

Crewkerz made an AS30 BB/crank/freewheel system and you all lost your shit 'cause it didn't fit a different standard. Sure - they might've gotten a better reception had they gone BB30 instead, but at least they're trying!

It's not overpriced, either. You're mostly paying for the "new" technology, design, effort, and the prestige of it being the first production carbon frame (not to mention the Monty logo), not the weight advantage.

I'm sure a lot of R&D has gone into designing this bike so the price is not that silly. After all that's what you're paying for, the first proper CF frame trials has seen. Trials needs more technical exercises like this, the parts we use haven't progressed in years, they just undergo small tweaks in geometry. Good job Monty.

Flipp I'd be pretty confident of that frame outlasting a normal alu frame myself..

I dunno about outlasting a decent one (newer Onzas, some Deng etc. [Edit2: generally frames that are as light as sensibly possible without compromising strength])... (Edit: Not to say it won't - but I'd be surprised. Alloy frames have a lot of experience and testing, where as this is the first production model - there's bound to be necessary improvements to make that only get spotted once lots of people ride them.) I can happily see it outlasting a Sky or Bjorn etc. though. Just didn't want to state it as a fact since it's pure speculation, and I'd hate to fall under the same category of people I'm having a go at ;)

It's an encouraging sign that it was in testing for so long. If it'd been a Deng project, he'd no-doubt have just produced it, and let the punters find out what does and doesn't work :P

Ali - I believe that "weight" should've been "weigh", and the "130" refers to "130lbs", which is strange as I thought the UK was the only region of Europe stupid enough not to have gone fully metric.

...But I'm fairly sure you knew that (assuming that's what he meant), and are just playing the antagonist :P

Abel showing it being put through its paces was enough to convince me its up to the job.

Jesus, if everyone had the "nooooo cant be doing with that, what we have is fine" mindset the world wouldnt be the place it is today.
I fully support the idea of new innovative methods and designs, and as such big up Monty for the M5.
