rope access workers

anyone in the rope access industry? It appeals to me but not sure how hard it would be to get into it in a decent role. I can see it being contractual work and varied in places which appeals now but not so sure in the long run. My brother is a health and safety executive currently doing offshore wind farm stuff. Absolutely rakes it in and he has recommended this route for me.

Just want a general feel for it all and what is the best way to get in to the industry. Obviously I need my IRATA, but when you get more specialist for the offshore stuff it seems you need so many extra lil qualifications.

Fingers crossed, someone has some knowledge.

Cheers

I looked into it. It's awful for 9 months of the year, because it is cold, windy, and wet.

I know a lad who does it, he recommends against it. For the first month it's all "Wooooo, abseiling for a living!", then after that it's just tiring.

My boy Jahbless on here did it. Largely enjoyed the work but bossman was a cooont. Worked on nuclear power stations and bridges mainly, along with a few smaller contracts.

did he find it ok to get work on a regular basis? I want to do wind turbine servicing and maintenance ideally

They were flat out as far as I know. His boss organised the work, he didn't work for himself (although most do by the sounds of it). He was based in Somerset but worked all over the place.

Are there many wind turbines up your way? Might be worth getting in touch with companies like EWT and see who they use for maintenance. There are hundreds down here in Devon/Cornwall.

There's not a lot around here but I don't mind working away in the weekoor a couple weeks at a time. My bro goes all over the placce and is in Grimsby a lot. He works on Siemens stuff for Centrica. Siemens do an apprenticeship for it. But not looking for anyone at the moment. Will check out who you said. Cheers dude
