ooo
Can't find what I need on google. I assume Shimano Saint bb's use a different axle diameter to isis bb's ? so I can't put a Saint or a Raceface Axle in an ISIS BB? Do Raceface bb's use the same tool to fit as a Saint bb ? What do you call the type of bb that Saints take ? I think FSA and Chris King etc.. also make bb's that fit raceface and saints cheers guys,
CurtisRider
ISIS bbs have an axle built into them and are for ISIS only cranks (Shimano use a different, but very similar interface). Saints use an external BB system and the axle is built into the driveside crank arm. What cranks do you have?
ooo
I don't have anything yet, ordered a mtb frame and now im looking for cranks, but I've heard raceface and fsa cranks will fit shimano bb's and vice versa but I'm not sure what the system is called (like how ISIS has a name thats easy for me to find). CurtisRider
Both Shimano HT2 and Race Face X-Type cranks have the same diameter axle (i'm not totally sure about FSA) and use the same width bb cups, from what I have read Shimano BBs are very good compared to other makes of similar price. Truvativ use GXP BBs which are external cups, I do not think they are compatible with other makes as they have tapered spindles (different size bearings either side). What bike is this for? ooo
Thanks for the help, I was looking around the sites and none of them refer to a common name for the axle type even though they all say they are cross compatible. I've ordered a Dartmoor Two6player 2013 frame for a bit of dirt and park.
CurtisRider
Some Zees or Saints would be pretty sweet on there, stick with a Shimano BB. Avoid Truvativ, the GXP BBs are terrible, I dislike mine and would really like to get some SLX cranks but can't afford them
LEON
I've got the raceface gold dh x type bb on both my bikes, both with Saint cranks. I was told that the raceface DH BB's are a bit better than the saint ones so I got them. The Saint cranks seem a much better system than the Raceface Diabolus etc (they have no pinch bolts and I've read about them coming loose and falling off) I've also read about the Diabolus pedal threads coming out. ooo
Yeah, I'll look around, I have pretty much hated everything I have owned from from truvativ/avid/sram group. I wont be doing DH on it so I guess that gives me some leeway, with BB's I tend to buy ones with replaceable bearings; I am not sure if you can get bearings for shimano ?? Could be raceface or Shimano...
CurtisRider
The Diabolous cranks I had were freaking terrible. I broke the left arm within a week and the replacement set developed play very quickly at the BB (yet the bearings seemed absolutely smooth and fine). I replaced them with Saints and had no issues after that
LEON
Yeah the Diabolus look brilliant but they need re designing, I haven't used my Saints much but I can't fault either of them.
