Jake.
Long story short. I sidehop to the right, what can I use that won't break from side hops? A 74kings or a spoke tensioner I'm guessing?

aener
I think it's kind of nice that people still acknowledge them as 74Kingz, even though they're now made by Heatsink Nothing against Heatsink - I used to love the pads - it's just a cute little legacy. monkeyseemonkeydo
I think maybe if Steve had done something, anything, to make it different to the 74Kingz maybe people would take it on it's own merit but it's an exact replica. I know there's not too much freedom when dealing with a bent bit of metal, some spring steel and a plastic lump but it's exactly the same. Work quite well though- just bought one off Darren Hill (no freaking way I was spending £30 for one new) and the first thing I did was remove the sticker... Jake.
Okay cheers, how strong are 74kings from failed moves? And haha flipp I know, I respect what heatsink have made but I prefer calling it 74kings but maybe that would change if I ever ran the heatsink one
monkeyseemonkeydo
They're pretty good- should be tucked out of the way and allow for some spring if you do contact it. I only killed my (real) 74Kingz by getting my jeans caught in my freewheel which snapped the springs and I lost the plastic block bit. Rowan used to run his upside down (so increasing chain wrap) which seemed to work well for him though I don't know if he modified it to make it work or if he was just lucky with chain length and dropout design.

FamilyBiker
dcd didnt work as good haha. basically i took an old sawblade an some random plastic.drilled the sawblade, cut it to the lenght required, then filed the plastic thingy to hold the chain sidewards(right term?),then bolted it to the sawblade, which i heated and bent before to have the tension i wanted. you´d just have to ziptie it to the chainstay as you havent got a mount for it. dezmtber
More like a kore chain reactor. They worked quite well with the right tension
FamilyBiker
no no,more like a 74kingz or heatsink(i know its the same lol) but mounted to the chainstay and with 25g weight Edited April 10, 2013 by FamilyBiker
forteh
Home made here, a little more involved than a 74K design though, works perfectly though, cannot be hit and weighs very little Never had any joy with spoke tensioners, my cs length and gear ratio just don't work out well enough.
CalopS
This is what I've bodged together recently after getting tired of spoke tensioners popping out. Making use of broken deng stuff
bing
@Forteh It's like an atomz/ozonys tensioner that mate

forteh
It's based on the same concept, but doesn't need the dedicated frame boss, theoretically it will fit any vertical dropout bike
onza1
Dont wannna hijack the thread but how muh tension should ur chain have? Just enough so the chain doesnt come off or super tight hardly any movement at all??

Just enough so the chain doesnt come off or super tight hardly any movement at all?? If it's too tight you'll ruin your freewheel.. if it's too loose it'll come of/ slap around your chain stay. Are you using horizontal or vertical dropouts? If horizontal you should be able to touch the chainstay with your chain comfortably. If vertical find a nice inbetween tension
