Removing Freewheels

I've done it a few times by bolting the tool to the cranks then putting a large adjustable spanner on the tool. If you can arrange the assembly so that the crank and the spanner make an obtuse triangle with the floor (so that when you apply a downward force on the freewheel the spanner will work to undo the freewheel) then stamp on the freewheel it can be enough to break the 'seal' without using a vice. Used the technique three or four times over the years and usually works. Just be sure to wear some sturdy shoes so you don't stab your foot with the teeth of the freewheel!!
