fbmbmx
Well just been out on the new bike for half hour and i'm finding pedal to ups very hard. I can side hop higher and easier than pedal ups. It just feels like i have no power and when trying to just hop up without pedaling (like i used to on my mod six years ago) i just end up going over the front end. Some help would be great. On the plus side It felt great to ride again. Thanks
Danny00135
You couldn't do us all a massive favour and film yourself doing a pedal up so we can direct from there could you? Otherwise we'll just tell you the process and it might not help at all :/
fbmbmx
Yep I am riding tomorrow so will get one then . what is the normal process for getting onto the back wheel up a wall? would it be a pedal up or just a hop ? on a stock that is
Danny00135
Many different ways, Pedal up, Tap anything you're more comfortable with
fbmbmx
Ok, it just feels on the pedal ups that i have to go VERY slow to still have power in the cranks with my current gearing
Danny00135
Ok, it just feels on the pedal ups that i have to go VERY slow to still have power in the cranks with my current gearing What size cranks are you running, and what ratio, 18-15?
dan rider g
yh i will put some vids up to moz but it just takes time especially doing kick hope up a wall
fbmbmx
Yep 18-15 with 175mm cranks I find kick hops up easier at the same hight, just the moving moves that i' finding very hard

But you're best off just practicing it
fbmbmx
Ok, what is the "normal" size for stock cranks?
FamilyBiker
could have to do with the gearing, like in my case, could be other factors, too. i changed from 22:16 to 22:17,and its a bit more difficult to put the power down when doing rolling pedal ups. its about to kick that last bit of turn before you take off a bit harder and shorter i think. thats how it feels for me Ok, what is the "normal" size for stock cranks? 170? Danny00135
175 seems to be the most common, but 170 is used often too.. Going int 165/160 you can be classed as being a little "strange"
fbmbmx
Oh ok so the "normal" is 175. Must just me being new and stuff i'll keep trying

But you're best off just practicing it I would say the problem is the speed, not how easy/hard the pedaling feels. Btw for pedalups you should go slow and gain most of the speed from the last quarter stroke, it´s like you are trying to loop out. Here slow mo vid of me doing pedal up at 0:26, I would say it´s easy to see where I put the most power down Edited April 5, 2013 by ghostrider88
CalopS
Maybe try tapping if your struggling to strait up pedal hop. It is a Zoo after all.

Yeah bit of tap can help, but if he is struggling with timing, I don´t know if it´s easier technique. For me personally it isn´t.
trialsiain
trashzen.com helped me a lot i found the hardest thing was timing.. i either went to early and didnt get far enough on or went to late and hit backwheel on side of object
Jake.
The more power you put down the easier it is, when I first started I did it slow and pulled with my arms more than anything. A guy I was with told me to kick/pedal harder and I instantly gained like 5 inches which was a lot considering I could only do like 20 at the time

Jake.
It was only about 8 inches in this one, I was impatient and took a premature photo.http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourcommunity/before-and-after-beard-584.jpg
Laurence--Trials
You say you were easier to pedal hop easier on your mod 6 years ago, i was able to beast out some fairly large kicks (IMO) on my mod but since moving to 24 i simply cant get the power down to do them. I've just had to take them out of my riding, might be something to do with the bike?
trialsiain
Also compress body down before you lift of helps forme
fbmbmx
Kinda got the hang of it today, just think the more a ride the easier it will be. Thanks all
