cardenas_26trials
Hello, Can you give me any tips of how to sep up an IS caliper so it's 100% correclty aligned to the disc? I know sometimes the disc mounts of the frame come a bit crooked and you need to use a file on them, then how I know it's the case? please help and be patience with me thanks! (Zoo lynx frame, Trial Zone caliper, 160mm rotor, Zhi Hub)
trials hoe
are hope calipers a slightly different offset to most? or is it the disc flange on their hubs? either way caliper shims are what i used to get mine right like washers really just at a set thickness. edit - i got these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=356 Edited March 31, 2013 by trials hoe
Rockman
Don't use a file, the chances of you getting the mount 100% straight is very low. Take it too a bike shop and get them to do a mount face. (although they probably won't have a tool the right width for the frame) Could maybe send it to Tartybikes?
FamilyBiker
there are those 0.1 mm washers.and face the mounts only with the dedicated tool! edit:argh got beaten Edited March 31, 2013 by FamilyBiker

Shipping from chile would be expensive haha. I don't think any bike shop where I live can do that job, anyway I will ask ! thanks for the replies so far
trials hoe
I don't think the problem comes with horizontal adjustament, but with vertical as in rotor is too big?
cardenas_26trials
as in rotor is too big? Well yes, but apart from that I think that, for example if the rotor is in a 90° angle, caliper could be at 85 or 95, resulting in a spongy lever feel as the contact won't be parallel. FamilyBiker
yes,you have to face your mounts i think not sure about the non-fitting rotor though
dezmtber
Should have bought a no9 caliper. With is mount you can only move the cakiper side ways. If yoyr getting vertical problems you could try a half link in the chain to position the wheel better. Or a different rotor What rotor have you got. I know its 160mmis it the hope rotor?,
FamilyBiker
word of the year 2013:Cakiper! :wink2: joking. isnt that problem due to using front cakipers on the rear? like you cant use a front 160 adaptor on the rear for 160? when it comes to mod frames and hope brakes i´m kind of clueless, but would be interesting to know Edited April 1, 2013 by FamilyBiker

FamilyBiker
That's just what I call is mount calipers there so useless. postmount is the better standard, plus its intercompatible with IS through adaptors. there was that old 4piston xt,i didnt buy it for 30euros new, because it was IS. certainly a patent cost thing
dezmtber
All is does is save the weight of 2 bolts and a bit of alloy. Post gives more adjustment side ways and more mount options so one caliper will work front and rear 140-203mm rotors with the right mounts Hope only do IS 160 or 180 they fit front or rear. But if you want 160 rear you use the 180 front. s rear IS frame mounts are -20mm to the front.
