what foot forward

Well coming from a BMX background, I ride right foot forward and have my BMX pegs on the right side which means that i'm used to hopping to the right with my right foot forward, Just been watching some trials videos and it looks like people who ride right foot forward side to the left. Was just wondering why this changed between bike as the action is the same.

You can tuck better if you go to the left with right foot forward.

You can sit more behind your forward foot where as if you were right foot forward and side hoped to the right you would be trying to sit back and tuck sort of on top of your left foot which is positioned at the back.

Hope that made sense.

There are lots of examples of people that go the same way as there forward foot though. Neil Tunnicliffe for example.

I used to do the same but brakeless 24 has made me a more rounded trials rider so I can side hop either way now.

To be fair like any sport the better you get or the more you ride you will pick it up. I remember back when I started me and a group of friends used to all side hop toward our forward feet when we had a weekend then we all learnt to go the other way and never looked back so like I said the more you ride the easier the option to change will come to you or like some riders you might just decide to keep to how you know

:) i'm the same now thanks to brakeless, i'm a lefty and i can do both ways but, although i prefer sidehopping static to the left.

So yeah try both ways and see what works?

Ok so when m bike gets here and i start riding again (had over five years off bikes) should I just start doing it the normal way from the off or go with the way i would find easier until i have some technique down and then switch sided later.

Bmxers tuck to the opposite side to trials riders as it feels more natural in spins, trials riders tuck the other way so the pedal doesn't hit the wall on the way up as much.

Obviously you get goof riders who bend the rules, but the above reasons are generally true.
