Canardweb
Hi everybody, I recently wanted to build a Rockman single wall rim with my Bonz pro light splined rear hub. Tarty provided me the spokes for that build so no doubt about the length. They said I should lace the non drive side 2x and the drive side 3x but when I have finished 2 spokes are loose and 2 spokes are tight alternatively when you look around the wheel. The spokes that are loose are those which come from over the flange and which cross the others. My question is what did I do wrong. Please help me as I am desperate to find a solution
BradJohnson
De-tension the whole wheel and start again mate. Sounds like you tensioned one part too much.
planet x alan
Hmm, sounds like something to do with what holes you've put the spokes in the hub. To me it sounds like you need to de-lace one side and move each spoke around 1 hole on the hub flange so the spokes that are pushing through from the outside should be from the inside and vice versa. On some hubs there's a minute difference. Trying to go from memory it's been such a long time since I laced a wheel up.
Canardweb
Already tried rebuilding it twice. Nevermind I'll order some spokes to have a 3x on both sides...
FamilyBiker
no,dont!it has to work. http://sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html sorry that i am too lazy to explain it myself. scroll about1/3 down, there you are! you used th wrong opposite hole when you began lacing the second side i think. i build my wheels the sheldon brown way and never had a problem. the second key spokes are the important thing,if theyre a hole offset to the wrong side you have every 3rd or 4th spoke sticking out Edited March 30, 2013 by FamilyBiker
AdamR28
Exactly as Alan says. The reason we sent 2x/3x mix is that it's a very odd length spoke for 3x on the non disc side (270 or 272 from memory) which is hard to find. The exact solution depends on how exactly you lace the wheel, but it's not difficult to sort if you look at the wheel it will be obvious which way the non drive spokes need to be moved. Canardweb
Thanks a lot. I will debuild the non drive side and think.
AdamR28
Think first, then re-build! The spokes that are too short, you need to move them closer to the rim (and the ones that are too long, you need to move them away from the rim) - that will tell you which way round they need shifting

I will do that
Canardweb
Problem solved! The wheel is perfect! Only needs a grind, and I'll show you my new build which is a bit more of a classic geometry. Adam, when wil you stock the Bonz carbon bars back?
