mr.tattoo
Lol ok thanks. So a decent sticky pad will be just a diff sound compared to the grind screech lol
0zzy
just run a grind if you want a good break, or get a disk if you want silence. smooth rims are shocking as soon as you go near moisture, dirt etc.
J.KYDD
I'd rather a brake that works which slightly annoys my neighbours than a smashed in face and happy neighbours.
Sam T
I found that Heatsink Blues work very well on a smooth rim, although as mentioned as soon as you hit moisture / dirt your on your ass! Best brake I've ever had was 'proper' Coust pads, medium/harsh grind and a booster. Was noisey but it was also reliable.

thinkdougie
Id rather have a good brake and not have to worry about it while riding, than keeping the neighbours happy.

Jake.
Not on the right set up Pfft don't bother they're too narrow minded with stuff like tar, brake spray etc.

Jake.
I like tar but don't really see the point in monty brake spray Tar is better on shiny smooth rims, like the echo rims, but monty brake spray is better on matte smooth rims I believe. SamKidney
Mr. Harmers running what Id say were a shiny smooth anodized rim, and his brakes are mega. Tar makes your pads dirty, isnt consistent and is generally horrible stuff. Brake spray seems better for smooth rim fans. Good braking, keeps your pads cleaner and is more consistent than tar. Thats what I've figured from my brief experiences with the stuff. I'd choose brake spray over tar for sure. harmertrials
Tar wont apply to certain rims, a small dab of monty spray on a rag, wipe round and away you go. I too knocked it in the past without ever giving it a chance, but oh my does it work well. Mr. Harmers running what Id say were a shiny smooth anodized rim, and his brakes are mega. Mine are a matte finish, I've always opted for tar in the past when smooth, and always loved it.

FamilyBiker
i made the experience i have to "pull all registers"(do uk chaps call it that, too?) during the life of a grind/sets of pads: -at the beginning, there was a grind.medium harsh -that smoothens down until that bit of shine appears. -i change pads to softer ones. -during the grinds final dying process tar is applied. -i grind again gives me the best rim wear life edit:get your neighbours some oropax,a good maggie has to sound like its being r*ped Edited March 24, 2013 by FamilyBiker
dave33
Koxx browns with light grind always had more of a swoosh and still worked good with me, but not sure if you will find any
315r
What brings you to that conclusion? Hello. IMO monty spray is crap, because: - difficult to apply - last long half an hour - difficult to clean residues Tar is millions better, although everybody knows that tar in wet conditions don't work neither. In Catalonia nobody use monty brake spray.... Sorry to be the grammar killer of the forum.. Edited March 25, 2013 by 315r

Is it really that hard? Because if it is, you have problems. Edited March 25, 2013 by JMCD
