kjd4000
Bought these from a local guy today. Quite rare I have been told. Should polish up quite nicely. What do you guys think? Good buy?
isitafox
How much did you pay? They're rare for a reason!
LEON
Saw them up for about £80, think there were only 5 or 6 sets ever made. They'll outlast any of that Deng stuff no problem, they look expensive too, unlike the Deng stuff. Edited March 12, 2013 by LEON
cai
I thought these were un-useable because there weren't enough threads to make contact with a screw on cog or a freewheel, resulting in the threads stripping?
kjd4000
Paid a good price for them. Should be good, not had any issues with middleburn cranks before.
isitafox
If you bought them you'd regret doing so pretty quickly once you've stripped the freewheel threads - the reason they didn't go into production was because there's so little thread contact. There's only 5-6 full threads on there which makes it a bit dicey. If you put a bashring on you'd be dropping that down to about 3-4 at most which definitely isn't ideal... With a bashring yeah there wasn't enough threads but there was just enough without the bashring
Mark W
I'm not sure I'd really want to risk it even without a bashring in fairness. There's very little contact there...
kjd4000
Hmm may have to have a chat with my machinist friend then. Sure some more space could be made.
isitafox
Pretty sure if it could have been Middleburn would have found it in the first place
0zzy
i am sure it could be modified to gain extra threads, just don't use a bashring be fine i would have thought.
Greetings
they look expensive too, unlike the Deng stuff. Personal opinion I know, but to me they look like old Shimano Altus cranks
