ogre
Hey yall I put my back out on Saturday when riding doing some minor moves. I'd already made a few large (for me) moves so I don't think it was a case of not warming up. I'm still experiencing discomfort and difficulty when moving although its reduced since Saturday I'm wary of doing it again or not allowing it to heal up. Doea anyone have any experience or advice they can share? Its lower back pain. Its not thay "getting into riding trials" ache we've all been through. And I'd consider myself in good shape. CalopS
After I fell out of that tree my back took a couple of weeks to recover. I just didn't ride. It's not worth trying to unless you can afford to go see a chiropractor to see if it's anything serious first.
SamKidney
Id say it may well be the combo of the high bb on your because frame and your very (in my opnion) low front end on your mod.

0zzy
if its not to bad ride, if you think its too painful get it sorted out. i don't understand why people write stuff like this on a trials forum instead of just seeing a doctor. from your "symptoms" you could have done anything and why would you listen to any tom, dick or harry when it comes to your back!!! which in my opinion shouldn't be f**ked about with. just go see a doctor.. Mark W
In fairness, with how f**king useless the NHS are for most sports related stuff asking on here can actually get you some advice you wouldn't otherwise get from the people paid to give it to you. A doctors unlikely to advise you change your front end setup, for example
ogre
my thinking was that if it happened while doing trials there's a fair chance someone else who rides done it too, and they might be able to offer some more reslevant and direct advice. i've put the bikes down, and untill i'm confident with my range of mobility, they're staying down. after 3 days it really doesn't feel doctor worthy either... SamKidney
Any change in your setup will feel weird at first, just give it some time. You're a man of a tall nature, and I definitely think you'd benefit from a higher bar/stem (I cant remember if you haz highrise bars or not). gage-mann
i jolted the muscles in my back doing a gap down to gap up, had to jump/fall off the bike and could'nt sit up or lie on my back soo the paramedics arrived to see me lying on my front haha. ended up going to hospital and being in there for 90mins on all types of shit before i could leave, did'nt ride for 2 weeks after it all and took months to heal fully! He's just had a new frame so a full-on change of geo isn't going to be ideal in a sense of it totally changing from what you're used to. ogre
i've riden the because enough times and it's been fine, and i've been able to push it as much as the echo before it. going for a higher front end would nulify the perks of the extra bb rise surely? Mark W
Not as such - bringing your bars up doesn't change the fact you're still overall further up, if that makes sense? You have to balance it out to some extent.
SamKidney
I didnt think so when I went from riding pythons/old echos/Gu's at +55 to my first and second Ice at +70. Nice amount of rear wheel control while maintaining a comfortable front end. Makes two wheeled stuff much nicer too.
ogre
I've never cared fir two wheel stuff. I guess my rolling up to rears have suffered but I'm a static fan boy anyway haha

Revolver
I suffer from back pain after a while when riding. One time recently it was really bad, because of an awkward exercise I was doing in part of this workout. I only managed to get in about 30 mins of actual riding. Flipp would vouch that I was probably lying, the f**ker That took about 2 weeks to properly die down and only recently would I say that it's close to 100% fixed. Anyway, I found that a good set of stretches each day helps. I advise this stretch where you sit down cross legged and then reach forward on the floor, stretching your back and pushing an imaginary (or indeed real, if you want) object away from you. When you get close to the bottom, hold it for a bit, maybe 20 seconds, and come back up. Do it a few times, 3 times maybe. You're a bit of a bodybuilder so I'm sure you'd know you'd be a fool to try it without warming up! Something else I noticed which doesn't help - posture. Check to see what the angle of your pelvis is like, if it's too angled, it'll curve your back more than it need be. I used to be a low stem/bar fan, and tried a 165x35 out of curiousity. Stuck with it and my riding hasnt suffered.
A.Baxter
Is it muscular mate ? I have had problems since i was fairly young. I threw my back out on a trampoline once as the right hand side of my back is more developed so heavier and all the muscle slipped out of place. Since then I have done it twice on my bike. The first time it happened i went to Physiotherapist and he popped it back, but now whenever it happens he tell me to stretch it a lot even when it's not out of place or hurting, and also when i do, do it he tells me just to rest and stretch. It hasn't happened for a while now, and it hopefully won't fingers crossed. Adam.
tmks88
most likely you have tension in your muscles its not necessarily in your back, it could be in your quads or hamstrings. the problem is when those muscles are under tension that they pull your pelvis in a bad angle which will affect your spine and some nerve canals will be under stress, which causes the back pain rest and stretching help like others have noticed in this thread with their back problems to avoid it warm up and keep your back warm when riding and also stretch AFTER EVERY RIDE, people are lazy and usually dont do that

My back is in pain at the moment, i thought it was from jumping off and jarring my back to often as that's when the pain seemed to start, It's a really sharp pain just to the right of my spine. But i went riding after a week and the pain came back after I tucked for a sidehop. I haven't changed geo for months so i'm hoping i've just pulled the muscle and it should sort itself out. I rested for a week and thought it would be long enough, but it wasn't and brought the pain back again. going to take a couple weeks off this time, I hate being off the bike, especially when it's dry! ogre
Had a little play on the stock last night. Ended up riding for a good hour with no noticeable discomfort. Had some over bar height powerhops and kepy riding rear wheel intensive lines for long stints. Felt fine when I got home. And fine this morning. .. what stretches should we be doing for trials? A health sticky should be made...
