RyanMcVicker
Just wondering what everyone out there is using for stems and spacers, specifically 26" bikes with BB +45 or more. Whats your opinion on using spacers? I am 6'4" and just got a new 150x30 stem and I have a 10mm spacer under it... Can't really play with spacer height with a sloped top cap so I am wondering if I should cut it down without spacer or leave it? On a 26" with +45 bb, wheelbase is around 1100. Does Stan run a spacer under his stem? I know he's tallish and uses the tryall 152x30 stem i believe? Some moves are better with higher bars but some are worse, trying to find the medium best of both worlds spot. Thanks
cai
If you've got a 20mm spacer lying about, you can grind or file it to the angle/shape of your sloping stem. Put the modified spacer on top of the stem and then your free to play around with stem height without cutting down your forks. Once you've found the perfect height then cut the forks down.
RyanMcVicker
Thanks, ill try that. Was also just wondering what stem setup other tall riders are using?
cai
I'm 6'2" and ride a +70 BB 24", I run 15mm of spacers underneath a 127mm X 27degrees Try All stem (sloping top cap) and use Trialtech high rise bars. I used the 'angled spacer' method that I told you about above to determine that 15mm was the right amount of spacers for me. Then I cut my forks down to the angle of the stem, with the forks sitting around 4-5mm below the top of the stem.
isitafox
I'm 6'2" and also ride a +70 BB 24", I currently run a 7mm spacer with a 150mm x 30° stem and trialtech high rise bars though I may bump it upto 15mm. When I had my 26" Pure which was +60 BB (I think with trialtech forks on??) I had 15mm of spacers, a 130mm x 25° stem and tryall carbons/trialtech high risers. RyanMcVicker
And what things make you decide? Just comfort? Because there is no perfect height, too much height and a few moves will rock but others will suck, and vise versa with low setup. If you think about it, a lower setup would be easier to go to front wheel, wouldnt have to pull bars up as high to get the wheel on top of the object. but a high setup might be better for rear wheel control for tall guys.? kurt94y
I'm 6'4" and ride a mod with +70 BB Using a TrialTech 180x30 with 30mm spacers and it doesn't feel too bad and have quite allot of control on both wheels and rear.
isitafox
I like doing rolling moves like bunnyhopping up to rear on walls an stuff, 26" setup was perfect for this and the 24" setup seems to be ok, just needed ro roll the bars back slightly. I'm not a big fan of pogo stickish static stuff.
Blake
I'm 6"2 and rite a mod with +55bb with 10mm of spacers and a 165x25 stem with trialtech sport bars (low rise)
cai
And what things make you decide? Just comfort? Because there is no perfect height, too much height and a few moves will rock but others will suck, and vise versa with low setup. It's a compromise really. I find with a low front end your bike will be good for static moves (back wheel moves, to front, etc) but the bike will suck for rolling moves (taps, bunnyhops) and will more than likely hurt your back. Likewise too high of a front end results in rolling moves being alot easier but anything static feels terrible, although you shouldn't have any back pains. So you've got to find that height where your fairly comfortable and can perform both static and rolling moves.

bing
I'm 5'11" and I ride a mod with 20 mm of stackers, a 165x35 stem, and tryall rage raised bars, and its +55bb. Rides amazing, nice high front end so it doesn't cramp you up
