persistant_itch
Hey all, Ok so I'm on the verge of buying a fourplay 2010 bike, and basically a little niggling issue I have is the lack of rear disc mount, I'm not sure wether to buy it because of that. So my question is, do I miss out on anything by not having dual disc? I know opinions will divide on this, but I just sorta want to know if I should hold off for a 2011? Thanks
picowatt
Buy it and ride the crap out of it
isitafox
Personally I'd rather have the 2013 over the 2011 if you wanted a disc mount as the geometry is slightly nicer

Ash-Kennard
if you are willing to grind you wont have to worry about the weather. the biggest thing you will notice is the noise in comparison to a disc. if you can deal with having loud brakes thats cool. you will notice your brake should feel more solid and positive than a disc brake as you dont have to deal with spoke flex. 24 and 26 inch spokes are abit long for that solid feeling you would get on a mod. you also wont have to care about contamination as much. nice. geometry on a bike really isnt that massive an issue, a few mm here and there wont stop you riding it as well. just need to get used to it. if it was good enough for danny mac im sure you will manage. so yeah, disc or not disc. both good options, but if you want to have that kind of modulation for manuals and the like. go disc. if not, vee/maggie will be fine
ogre
The right magura set up will be fine. I rode a dual disc 24 on the weekend and the wheel qas so flexy I couldn't get on with it personally. I'm quite a static rider though but I imagine the wheel flex is noticeable even if your flowy but still rely on braking for moves..
Matthew62
If you're going street 24" and want brakes it's got to be discs. Towards the end I despised my original Fourplay with it's shitty Magura, moving to double disc was a revelation (the rest of the bike world did it years ago) and it is so much nicer for street riding. Why do you need to hold off, the 2011 Fourplay has been around for a good while...if you're looking 2nd hand I know a guy who is selling an immaculate A1 condition one. JDâ„¢
24" street bikes should have dual disc or no brakes. There shouldn't be any other options considered. I know it's been said, I just wanted to add some extra noise to that fact.

(and i say that altough i´m a bike mechanic) compared to maguras, theyre so easy to live with. the other thing was me killing 3 brakes in 4 weeks while only learning backwheelhopping, the IS adaptor snapped and to take that oportunity the slave got rid of one of its mounting eyes. same sh... 3 times. switched to maggie, not a single problem since that, except to learn how to grind rims.but thats relatively easy Edited March 6, 2013 by FamilyBiker

FamilyBiker
i´d say no, jd´d say yes. you have to figure out what you want personally,i think. couldnt you ride a pals bike who has one or the other,or both? its the best one can do,ride both setups, then choose Edited March 6, 2013 by FamilyBiker

FamilyBiker
i think it doesnt matter on what kind of bike the brake sits, as long its no commuter .just one with maggies, one with disc. to have some kind of comparison. i made the experience disc has brutal braking forces, depending on rotor size though, while still having precise modulation. maggies are reliable and on/off. williams
I think that you'll be fine with a magura. I think a brake with a bit more instant bite would be funnier to ride on a street bike. I did have more fun on my bike with the magura.
