CalopS
Hmm, so if I bought some cranks that would take a freewheel. Could I use the 16t freewheel I have on my rear wheel already. Then buy a 14t screw on sprocket for the wheel? Would that work out? No that wouldn't really work out very well. The ideal gear ratio for mod is 18/12 so 16/14 would be far too light. 16t freewheels aren't commonly used as you have to have smaller internals which usually means they skip more often. ooo
I think I may have confused the thread by posting bollocks. Im sorry. My calc was wrong I was thinking 18/12 on the thread but doing 18/15 on the calc. Here are gain ratios for the options, but I had to approximate the rear wheel size to a 20" bmx on sheldons calc Wheel Cranks Chainring Sprocket Gain ratio 20 175mm 22t 16t 1.9 20 175mm 22t 13t 2.3 20 158mm 18t 12t 2.3 20 160mm 18t 12t 2.3 20 160mm 16t 10t 2.4 26 170mm 18t 15t 2.4 (26 x 2.35 tyre) 26 175mm 18t 15t 2.3 24 175mm 22t 16t 2.4 24 170mm 18t 14t 2.3 Edited March 6, 2013 by ooo
bing
I run 18-12 on my mod with 175 cranks, although I'm changing to 165 at the weekend. I'll let you know how different it feels
