Jake.
I've not properly used a rear free hub but reading all this stuff about how good the hopes are, I think I may sway in that direction when I need to rebuild my rear wheel. How much of a difference does it actually make by shifting the weight forward by using a ffw?
ghostrider88
not much, but when you add those extra 150g and half the EPs, it starts to make a difference.
Blake
Since going rear freehub I prefer it to FFW. not sure why, it just seems so much nicer. Also hope hubs are bombproof.
bing
not much, but when you add those extra 150g and half the EPs, it starts to make a difference. If you show me someone who can notice 150g in weight, I'll show my arse in woollies window. No way on this earth can anybody notice that small amount
trials hoe
If you show me someone who can notice 150g in weight, I'll show my arse in woollies window. No way on this earth can anybody notice that small amount saving weight is subject to where you're saving it, you may not notice it around the bb area but i noticed a saving of just short of 150g when i drilled my front rim into near oblivion. that said i noticed no weight difference when i put my carbons on (saving of 100g ish) didn't woolies go belly-up a while back? get to m&s thats not just any arse................... ghostrider88
If you show me someone who can notice 150g in weight, I'll show my arse in woollies window. No way on this earth can anybody notice that small amount It depends where that weight sits. 150g heavier BB you won´t feel, 150g heavier tire you will. The point is most kids here spend their pocket money on ti bolts to save 50g on whole bike, carbon bars etc. adding 150g would be painful for them I believe lol. Dammit trials hoe, didn´t read your post, funny how BB example came to my mind as well. Edited March 2, 2013 by ghostrider88
dave33
Iv had the same echo freewheel since 09 and it's still going fine. Still on my practice bike, I'd rather have a light rear hub and a heavy component on my bb. You will notice a big difference that way
cai
Running a FFW is definitely better for weight distribution, but seeing as no one can recommend me a viable replacement for my broken SL then I'm turning to the reliable option of a Pro2. Sam T
I've had a Echo TR 72 click on my bike since 2011? NEVER skipped on me at all and its still going strong. Guessing it was on the the first ones made?

bing
2 echo SL's exploded on today's donny ride, one was 5 days old. One was andee's, which was 2 months old, and the other was Damon's, which came on Friday. Not a good showing for echo at the moment, and chris's broke in scunny in November

Greetings
Would be epic if they were made like the first lot. Feeleys got one of the original SL freewheels on his mod and it sounds completely different to my newer black SL. Unfortunately, Echo do not want to admit something is wrong with the newer batches. Apparently dealers don't complain, which is strange because the failure rate of these is completely unacceptable. 1% per year would be bad enough. Perhaps someone should collect the damaged freewheels and send a 100kg box of remains to Deng, then he'd understand? 0zzy
i would get a echo sl no doubts, they are more then good enough for the job. just make sure they are bedded in properly. 3 years out of a freewheel is a bloody good show in my opinion.. SamKidney
You've got 3 years out of yours at it will be one of the good ones. I'd bet that if you replaced it with one of the current SL's it wouldnt last anywhere near as long.
Duncy H
I've got a new one, bought it second hand. It runs and sounds mint, I must be lucky!
cai
The problem is Ozzy, as I understand it, the freewheel that lasted me over 2 years isn't the same one being sold today. The new batch is worse (as verified by some of the comments in this topic).
dezmtber
I like to use the tensile 60, works fine for me and I have a spare on a spare crank arm ready for if it fails mid comp so i can just put the new one on in minutes, I can't really carry a spare wheel round though if a hope hub snaps the pawls springs or shifts the drive ring in the hub. I know those are very unlikely but it a ride ending fail.
BradJohnson
I'm running the standard Tensile 60 click on my Genesis, it feels like it has enough engagements, although it has skipped 2 twice, i have no complaints.
0zzy
damon breaking parts is not a shock to me, just bed it in an it will fine.

dann2707
Jed's outer ring snapped after 3 months too from brand new. It's such a bad situ as they are the best freewheel but they're also not at the same time
