Neon-trials
Iv changed from my bmx half link chain now I can't get the correct chain length it's either to tight or with another link its really too baggy can I change my gear ratio to compensate as it is at the minute I only need half a link or so ? Gear ratio is 18~15 Cheers
Blake
put it on too short and stretch it? or put it on too baggy and stretch it? it will stretch a fair bit so it should fit post-stretchage.
BradJohnson
You need to run a half link inplace of the split link.
FamilyBiker
You need to run a half link inplace of the split link. yeah, also very practical to know where its snapping at the end...
Mark W
You can take apart one of the half-links from your BMX chain, take the 1/8" roller out of the narrow end and replace it with a 3/32" roller from the Z610HX chain you've got now. That way, the pin for the half-link will be nice and long so it's unlikely to 'go wrong' at that end, and it should hopefully allow your chain to stretch out a little through use which would allow you to run it without a half-link. dave33
Those chains don't stretch alot. Your better off with a k710. That's if it's any near to going on ? You could file the slot in the drop out an extra 1/2mm if it's near. I wouldn't use a half link if I could help it. And not an old one that's been used for a while. Any half links iv tried all snapped

Blake
Really? I've always found them to stretch a lot to start with but once they've been stretched they're fine. .
Neon-trials
I've put a smaller tyre on the back for a while to see if the chain stretches enough for me to put my big Betty back on the tyres pretty massive the maxxis I'm using now gives a little more room for the wheel I've been out today for an hour and the chain seems a little slacker already so fingers crossed I will be able to put Betty back on

dave33
All my z series chains have stretched in seconds.... How heavy are you ? Iv had loads of the 610 chains never stretched alot. I would have noticed as I normaly hold up my old one next to new one to get the length right. Iv notice in the past with the kool chains that its nearly a link out difference

dk2
Hi just found this topic...I just put a Z610Hx chain on my ride, and after 2 rides (not seconds but close ;-)) and its stretch about 5mm (total length of chain). Is this the initial pre stretch ? and it will keep this length from now on ? how long time do you run your chains before replacement ?
