williams
Hey guys! I want a new rotor for the front and rear of my mod. I want a shimano deore rotor looks like this: My main question is, if I run this on the rear would I end up looking like something James May just shit out? Or would it work well on the rear with a saint brake? I'm thinking of a 160mm rotor. Help is more than well appreciated
Jake.
Should be fine, every inspired rider seems to use floating rotors. I've not much experience though.

Yeah I've seen a few use them. I've never seen them on a TGS'y bike before which makes me doubtful though

FamilyBiker
on mine the rivets came loose all the time, got normal "spiderless" now
murph82
on mine the rivets came loose all the time, got normal "spiderless" now a little ot, but what's the performance difference/idea of a floating rotor compared to a normal 'spiderless' one? FamilyBiker
on shimano its basically to realize the centerlock concept, dont know why others do,except magura ventidisc, but its obvious why they have the name Edited February 26, 2013 by FamilyBiker
isitafox
I could be wrong (usually am) but I'd assume on things like a downhill bike the pads might get pretty worn down so with the floating disc it is always central when the pads hit rather than one pad hitting first and bending the rotor towards the other??
stephenmx50
I dont think there is much benefit on a TGS style bike. From my knowledge of floating discs they started in the motorcycle world (i beleive) with the idea of the floating part helping stop the disc from warping when they get hot, you would often find that a floating disc would not actually be floating after intense use as the heat has made them expand, such heat without the floating part would make the disc warp and possibly stay warped. With no real speed used in trials im not sure of any significant gains of floating, just another part that has potential to go wrong if you ask me Im sure there could be some other benefits aswell, they also look very smart..... :wink2:
bing
on mine the rivets came loose all the time, got normal "spiderless" now The lad who I bought these off had them on an inspired, and now I'm running them, these rotors are at least 8 months old and I've had no trouble, I'm using goodridge sintered pads in mine. Works perfectly well
Sam Nichols
Yeah, people buy them 'cause they look nice. And they do, so buy them.
Ali C
I got mine because the fatter alloy arms are harder to bend than skinny steel ones. Still running them a year later with no problems and they are still pretty straight!
dezmtber
Those rotors are very light the brake surface is alloy with a steel coating to help take heat from the disc pads, The rivets are much better than the other rotors you can get like hope, aztec, superstar ect... I can't say if they are fully capable of really heavy gaps or landings, thou
bing
Yes they are dez lad. Never let me down yet

I can't say if they are fully capable of really heavy gaps or landings, thou Only the Ice-Tech ones have alloy, and they are still heavier than a standard rotor of the same size. They are plenty strong enough too.
