20 vs 24

Basically, I don't know what I want! I rode mod previously for years, and now im coming back into trials. The new 24 comp style bikes really interest me, but I used to love my mod!

I'm also only 5' 5"! I enjoy messing around as well as doing normal trials moves.

The bikes im considering are the echo lite 2013 duel disc, or the echo trial 24 2013.

I love a duel disc mod, the silent flicky fun you can have! But it seems as though you can be in more control and go much bigger on 24s!

I simply cant decide! Tell me your opinions on what you would buy!

cheers!

I've come from a a background of mods, and having bought a 24 it has made my riding progress. Everything seems alot smaller when im on a bigger bike. Although its helped me progress, I much prefer riding my mod.

Personal preference at the end of the day :)

I must confess I am more tempted by the 20", purely because I used to love it and can throw it around and have fun. I could potentially go bigger on a 24, but I'm not sure if I'm going to want to go silly big! I feel like coming back into trials just to have some good fun rather than push myself too much.

And the tyre issues with 24"s did come to mind, although I'm sure a company will make some to fill this gap in the market soon.

Well I'm potentially 65:35 on 20v24 now. I wonder if I shall change my mind before I press the buy button :P

Thanks for your input :)

I don't really belive this 24" tyre drama everyone is talking about.. When I had a slicked Try-all on my mod and I could spin on wet asphalt, I just changed the way I rode a little bit and I had no problems at all. I just think that you have to ride things a bit different, and I don't belive that EVERY 24" tyre is horrible etc!

I ride 24", every 24" tyre is horrible..

I'd certainly choose a slicked Try-all tyre over any of the tyres currently available for 24".

The only half decent tyres are the High Roller and Swampthing in Maxxis' 42a compound, but they're nearly impossible to get a hold of. The 60a versions of these tyres are terrible. The Big Betty and Fat Albert tyres are crap in the wet.

This is why anybody who rides natural/rocks/in the wet/comps/pure trials on a 24" would like to see something along the lines of a Maxxis Creepy Crawler, or a Try-all Sticky, or a Monty Eagle Claw, or a Continental tyre with the black chilli compound on sale.

Swampthing Super Tacky 24" is fine.

Rode mine on natty in the pissing rain and it held on everything. Super grippy.

This is the most god aweful tyre i ever used. The highroller is heavy. The moto diggers aer heavy for the front, pinch easy and arn't grippy.

The big betties and fat alberts are where its at, bouncyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, light, good puncture resistance, and very grippy.

More back on topic though.. i would suggest mod if you're getting back into it, you seem to like mod better so get something you're comfortable with, you're a good suitable height for mod too :)

As said though, you wont pull girls with mod though ;)

Alberts and Betty's are most certainly not the grippiest tyre for 24...

Bouncy yes, light yes, but the compound is shite and they fold on everything.

Prefered my swampthing a vast amount. Heavier, but more stable, added puncture resistance and grips like fook. Didnt hold back my riding, and inspired added confidence as I knew it wouldnt slip/puncture.
