clerictgm
Things are different in Russia and UK. You have alot more riders and events/comps. Well what do you think is most effectively to make trials popular? I heared that alot of people was inspired only by videos Events/internet promotion/building trials parks/finding and putting in order places to ride in winter. Any Ideas and what do you think most effective? Edited January 26, 2013 by clerictgm
SamKidney
A combination of everything. I'd say in the UK and some other countries its spread "quicker" because they're more densely populated, whereas in Russia a large proportion of your country is uninhabited/inhospitable, and less densely populated, so the sport spreads slower... I think.
Sam Nichols
I might be on my own here but I don't actually want trials to be 'big'. If trials becomes 'cool' we'll be flooded with scenesters and I just don't think I can handle that kind of vomit inducing wannabe bullshit.

Funny that as I wrote a letter about that exact matter to MBUK in 1998 I think it was, if anyone could find a copy with it printed I would be highly impressed/grateful! LEON
Trials is too hard, people with a hipster attitude to it would soon get bored. It's a big financial commitment (the bike) to just sit about on, compared to buying a skateboard or a low cut vest. It's pretty much what I've been doing for years I'm with Sam and Dave on this, trials is already too 'big' for my liking...
the mysterious leemur
So basically trials would turn into bmx. I don't know about elsewhere but where I live 90% of the time none of the people you see going around on them can't ride the bloody thing and are just chino cladded , top man supporting douchebags. Theres normally one dude who can ride and a bunch of others wearing monster hats and talking "selfless" on iPhones. If only making the gene pool more "selective" was legal...
ChrisTrials2012
You can't just say"no, no more" to someone when they start riding. Ye honestly are what I would consider to be stupid. Ye're worse than a schoolyard bully forbidding others from playing.

I agree even though I realize more people could mean better parts for riders as it would be actually worth it for big manufacturers to produce something for trials. But that´s the only advantage I could come up with lol.
Ali C
I'm not sure how you make something popular (I know I fail at times). I think more events helps, Section one was a good way to do it, so yeah....more of those. I have two thoughts about whether I want it more popular, part of me likes it being small (means people like me get sponsored) but more money would be cool so more people could make a living off riding, but the bar would be set higher so people like me would probably be overtaken by the next wonder kid and I wouldn't get to go on cool team trips and junk.

williams
I cant really see the problem with it getting bigger? Bigger community, more guys to ride with, more parts, more companies... it's like you wanna keep the fun to yourself..
thinkdougie
Trials is never gonna be as popular as other bike sports as it takes years to master, anyone can jump on a dh bike and go for a ride in the woods.
clerictgm
There are bunch of factors that prevent trials from expansion. The first and major is price. Cheapest "chineese-shit" bike like this: http://www.crazybike.ru/shop/details/3441/4/velosipedi/velosipedi-26/velosiped-because-color-custom-1 http://www.crazybike.ru/shop/details/3326/3/velosipedi/velosipedi-24/velosiped-24-because-street-custom-3 costs 700-800GBP. If compare that numbers to REAL (not showed by statistics) average income (~330GBP/month) conclusion is "WTF R U TALKIN BOUT THIS IS EXPENSIVE AS HELL". And people saying that is right, they can't even afford good food. If they children have a bike - this is some 60-70gbp chineese-ultrashit on noname parts with 25kg weight, Cutting officials into pieces, hanging, lynching putin and others good deeds are pretty hard to do and the problem not in officials, mainly people is shit and that's the reason of all this bad things (poverty and lawlessness) happening. So the second problem is winter, that can be solved by some indoors riding. In general I can do something. We need some bikes like onza that would cost ~300 GBP so this may positively affects on trials in our country. Maybe some parents would buy them bikes at this price. Anyway trials seems to be not so popular by itself. Maybe we need to focus on Street-trials. I think it would be much easily to get popular because on street-trials bike you may also ride park/dirts.
