Kieran Morrison
Hi all, I bought new cranks and fitted them tonight, but they dont go onto the bb fully. The spacers on the BB can move about 2mm each side and spin freely, so obviously the cranks aren't on properly. I've tightened them as much as i can but they dont seem to budge. Is this normal for new cranks? I've never had this problem before but maybe its the type of crank. They're Try-All cranks (the silver ones) on a Trialtech Sport Lite BB. Thanks
Martin Reynolds
Yeah, this is normal cause the splines on the cranks havnt worn as much as 2nd hand cranks. They will pull on further as you ride them, so for the first few rides, make sure the crak bolts are tight
williams
Think the Try-all ones are pretty tight from the start, and they have to be ridden in and re tightened often at the start. Don't count me as a trustworthy source though:) Mine where like that.

Thanks for the help The tolerances can differ from crank to crank, but ive found even with second hand cranks, they can take a while to 'bed' into the bottom bracket splines, so remember to bring a 8mm allen key with you, and just check them every half an hour or so on your first few rides. bing
get a rubber, or a shot filled dead blow hammer, and give them a good crack onto your bb, then loctite the bolts in for safety. should have very little problems, worked for me with new trialtech cranks and a tryall bb
Jake.
Always happened with my old echo 24 bb, same with my mates echo 24. His came loose. Bings tip sounds spot on though, give that a go.
dave33
You should just use a torque wrench and do them up with that about 42Nm should be ok if I remember rightly. Basically just dont do them up like a mad man which is going to stretch the traper on the crank. Just keep checking them for a couple of rides. Once the alloy crank work Hardens it will stay tight You dont need the spacers on the bb Edited January 25, 2013 by dave33
Jake.
You dont need the spacers on the bb I'm pretty sure it clamps the echo press fit bb in place? If you don't have something clamping it, it'll loosen over time... I'm sure.

Kieran Morrison
Just had a go on it and when i push down on the drive side pedal theres a squeeking noise, anyone know whats causing this? thanks
Azarathal
Could be pedal bearings. Just a tiny bit of grease on the bb splines if it's an Isis bb, grease pedal + freewheel + bb cup threads

The trialtech has a shorter thread, iv found they come lose more often than others
