dezmtber
Use the shovel to build ledges in the snow and cover the ledges with palets you could make better trials sections that way. All the snow here just melted and its now dry
the mysterious leemur
It's not enough. http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/180054-sick-of-sitting-at-home-in-wet-weather/?p=2484557 Find a shovel on the picture! Under snow there are some packed snow and under that packed snow there are some ICY ICE. And under all that things there is an OBSTACLE. Why don't you use ingenuity and make OBSTACLE out of SNOW and ICY ICE?
MadManMike
To everyone saying man up and such, it's nothing to do with manning up - I too don't go out in the wet or cold, not because I can't handle it, but because it's not fun. The winter sucks and my bike gathers dust for 4 months of the year, every year.
Jake.
I agree with you Mike, however I do ride in the winter... When it's dry Which is usually like once a week or every other week, whereas in the summer it'd be 2 or 3 times a week.

When it's dry Which is usually like once a week or every other week, whereas in the summer it'd be 2 or 3 times a week. Bullshit to both of you.... in a comparative sense it is less fun than summer but it doesn't 'suck' in the slightest. In all honesty if you can't ride in a British winter there emus be something wrong with you. It never gets cold here particularly and it doesn't rain all that much. Compared to every other country we have such mild weather all year round I can't see how anyone would be put off? There's an initial period thats harder than just jumping on your bike in the summer but 10 minutes in to a ride you're warm and feeling fine. I guess it depends on how much you like to ride. To me it's an important part of life so I won't allow weather to stop me. If there's torrential rain on a weekend i'll head out on the trail bike but I've never once not gone out due to weather. The recent snow hasn't put a stop to anything..... I wanted to ride trials last weekend so just checked CCTV cameras on surrounding towns to see the place with least snow and jumped on a train whereas some friends carried on with the big bikes and when they couldn't ride to the top of the mountains they just put their bikes on their backs and hiked up. If you love to ride it's not a big ask. So..as much as I despise the saying 'man-up' I think in terms of this topic of conversation it very much applies. Jake.
Matthew that sounds like some serious commitment, I hate riding by myself and do it very rarely. One local that I used to ride with a lot is now in Leeds, and another has work and cannot ride until 6pm most evenings. His method of transportation is via motorbike, and the roads are not suitable for him at the moment. I'm hoping he passes his driving test soon so we can go places in his pickup truck, the rain doesn't really stop me riding but it is a bit of a downer for me. I don't mind light rain but when it's heavy enough the water cuts out my hearing aids and that alone is enough to out me off going out. I suppose you could tell me to man up, but I'm not going out for a good reason. I do trials with mates for fun, if they can't ride then I won't. If it's too rainy/wet its not fun getting soaked and feeling pretty shit. Plus the fact my hearing aids could possibly cut out meaning I won't be able to hear. But yeah to the people who have mates available to ride with, don't hesitate.
MadManMike
Bullshit to both of you.... in a comparative sense it is less fun than summer but it doesn't 'suck' in the slightest. We have our opinions, mine differs to yours. When I go riding I like to be in light clothing, I like to be able to stop on the seafront and chill. what I don't like is to wear heavy winter clothing, be f**king freezing / soaked, slide around in the rain and come home totally savaged. Each to their own, but I don't enjoy that shit. Also, my headphones definitely don't like rain.
Matthew62
I prefer one over the other, but both fun to varying degrees.
clerictgm
Why don't you use ingenuity and make OBSTACLE out of SNOW and ICY ICE? 1) Obstacles from ICE is so retardedly stupid. There is NO friction, how the hell I would ride on ice? 2) Obstacles from snow? Impossible, because it would be ruined and very fragile. Only if use some packed snow + Ice + WOOD. But it would cost some GRANDZZZZZ (workers + materials + trucks) that I don't have and plus some real problem is to find place where it can be setted up and will not be destroyed on another day. (f**king people STEALING DIRTS AND PALLETS! And also may just destroy something for fun,. stupid f**king animals, that live in large numbers in Russia) This is stupid, because it requires too much money and time. So good old shovel and some hammer(to DESTROY icy ice) is the only way. And after all it is still NOT so fun like at summer. I'm not complaining. The good side of winter is that it is a good time to learn back/frontflip and do some 5+ floors drops in snow if there are enough snow. MadManMike
Is there such thing as summer in Russia?
clerictgm
If you were graduated from high school you would know that Russia is largest country in the World and in some parts of Russia winted doesn't exist at all. In my region (Urals) there are ~5 months of winter (snowy) in other 7 months there are alot of shitty-wet days(I don't know why GB called "always wet and raining place" because my city is worse). It directly affects on our level of riding and amount (there are 4 trials riders and one(me) street-trials rider in my city, population 1'000'000) of riders. MadManMike
Thanks, I didn't "graduate in high school" because I'm from the UK, but yes I did go to a secondary school. However, our limited curriculum didn't teach me anything at all about Russia, so all I know about it is the awful driving videos I see on YouTube. Cheers for the info anyway, it was a genuine question rather than me being a willy.

If some of you get pissy that you can't ride your bike for a month or two you need to get something in your lives.

But yeah to the people who have mates available to ride with, don't hesitate. I don't see it as a big commitment at all but I see where you're coming from. I certainly sympathise, when's its pouring trials isn't particularly fun hence why I go out on the mountain bike as its not such an issue there. I can see why it'd be difficult for you in heavy rain with your hearing aids so your got a very real restriction that I luckily don't have to contend with, nor do I imagine most do. The good thing about trials is you don't need much to had fun so it's not like it rains 24 hours a day and you can always pop out in a dry spell for a little while. It's worth finding some sheltered shops for when it does get bad so there's always somewhere to go. I appreciate trials for a lot of people is a social activity and I enjoy that aspect too however if I lived somewhere without riders I'd still carry on. Most of this winter I've ridden alone and getting out for a goo few hours on your own once in a while is great. You may as well get some riding in so you're fresh when the summer rolls back around. My main point is it would have to take a lot for e to not go out on the bike. Other than illness I'm good to go. I live in Scotland now and whilst the streets aren't bad at the moment the trails are covered but there's plenty of riders out there. I rode glentress a little while ago when it was snowy and we rode it at night. No way near as fun as a summers day but better than not riding.

Matt24.
It is so enlightening to see people can understand everyone is different! If you don't want to ride in the rain don't ride in it, however don't moan about it, its your choice. Find something to keep yourself busy till you want to. Funnily enough I have noticed in the last ten years of riding that the seasons invariably are the same each year and there is not a lot you can do about it. However on the flip side of it don't have a go at people over the fact they don't want to ride in it. It doesn't make them any lesser a man, it does make them any a lesser lover of the sport it just means they want to ride in nice weather. I am pretty much of this persuasion now a days. 7 years ago I would ride in any condition any time of the day irrelevant of weather. But now a days I don't 'bounce' when I fall off and I can't afford to not work so it makes more sense to wait for the better weather when I am less likely to damage myself. Long and short of it is or the point I am trying to get to in a very long winded way is. We each enjoy this sport for different reasons we each want to do it in different conditions and we each enjoy different aspects of it. We all have one mutual connection and whether you like to do it rain, snow or sun its good by me that you just want to get out on your bike at some point however if you choose not to find something to keep yourself occupied, strip your bike down make it run perfectly ready for when the weather is great, watch some videos for motivation for when it is dry or take up chess!!!

Sam Nichols
There are only ever two occasions when I will ride in the rain. The first is my commute to uni and the second is when I'm getting paid. Any other time I just don't bother, I barely enjoy my solo rides at all let alone a cold and wet solo ride. Everyone has their opinions and I know people think that if you love riding then you'll ride in any weather. I don't buy into that though. Maybe I have feline attributes or something, but rain can do one.
bikeperson45
I almost prefer riding in the winter (British winter that is) that the summer, riding alone in the summer I get sweaty enough to look like I've been rained on.
