Cracking video and as usual super smooth riding from Stan. Something I noticed was Stans foot position. He seems to ride with his feet more centred on the pedal (i.e pedal axel towards the centre of his foot, as apposed to the axle being under the ball of his foot, like me). I've just nipped out and tried this... although feeling a bit strange at first, It definitely felt better. I felt more in control and able to deliver a bit more power. Also it's got to be better for the knees under loading. I realise this could just be me and more psychological than anything else, but has anyone else found this? Be good to hear Stans thoughts?

I have called him out (jokingly) for this a few times :P

It actually gives less mechanical leverage from your calves (which are nearly as important for 'jumping' as your quads) due to the decreased lever arm, plus I'm wondering now it if contributes to the knee problems (patella tendonitis) Stan has, due to putting more % of the overall load on his knees...

That makes sense and I suppose his foot position may restrict the movement of his ankle, resulting in extra loading on his knees as he comes forward on the bike. Patella Tendonitis.... !! Ouch. Im surprised he's riding at all. Mate of mine tried to ride through PT and can no longer ride at all. Im going back to the balls of my feet!

That's what alot of triathletes do, they drill new holes in their spd shows to get it more midsole.

It's less efficient but you can get more power when it comes to an explosive move

Just like Olympic lifters drive from the heels and coming off the ball of the foot allows the foot to flex at the ankle which soaks up loads of power.

Weight lifters use pretty much every muscle in body to lift that amount of weight, calves help you to get 2-3more centimetres so you can get under the bar at the end of clean/snatch.

No. The part when his ankles moved is called the triple extension, the weight has already moved, and basics physics tells you that every reaction is equal to its opposite reactions

If he stood on the balls of his feet and tried to lift that 214kgs he will lose power when his heels are pushed down onto the floor.

Don't bother arguing, just do some reading for yourself

Iv been doing some Olympic lifting over the last 3 months and my coach was British champion a few years ago.

Make more videos please stan+mark

same thing as sprinters using starting blocks on their heels.................

What before the high jump? What are you talking about.

You would argue with your own shadow?

Copy and paste from goggle

Triple extension is caused in much of Olympic weightlifting by the hip extension literally lifting the feet into a plantar flexed position, without much or any help from the calves and triple extension is often done simply for the lifter to move his feet to a different catch position rather than add to the force driving the bar

Really?Over three months?I´ve been doing it for last 8years, but I´m sure I should do some more reading for myself. Thanks Dave for another great post.

Kool post up a video then, considering you been doing it so long you should be good for 70kg clean ?

Is are you at the same level as on your bike ?

70kg is supposed to be a lot? I don´t get it?My best power clean is 100kg and it is POWER clean, so I´m not catching it in deep squat possition and I do them only when I want a change from deadlifts I do 90% of time. You better ask your trainer what that "tripple extension" means and why you should do it, it´s not a rocket science but you are lost obviously.

Why is it that you seemingly need video proof for everything you disagree with to be satisfied?

Take his word for it. You seem to criticize peoples abilities and opinions without thinking "it may just be true, so I'll leave it at that".

Please don't loose any sleep over the matter. You seem to care an awful lot.

This is the same guy who's telling every one about perfect techniques all the time

Telling people how to side hop 50" when he can't do bar height.

By the way I just made a 60" side hop f**king buzzing

Dude,if you said that 3hours ago, I would gladly film my three sets of 4reps with 80kg...Next time maybe.

Ok sorry my bad, maybe next time. But can you make a new topic for it

Shame on you for strugling with 65kg then, I would expect some power from guy capable of that, where´s vid of that sidehop btw? You know what I mean? Oh, and I can sidehop bar height lol, I would actually say my ups and gaps are pretty good for someone who doesn´t really care about riding and get out on bike once a week most of the time...

When have I done so?

If your referring to the sidehop thread, then are you saying the same to everyone else who offered their pennies worth?

And I've been able to do bar height, and higher for a good while now, so what did you base that upon?

Don´t worry, I actually might film it for him so he could stop arguing about something he doesn´t know much about. When he talks about riding, I actually listen to him and agree in most cases, but when he talks about bike parts or pretty much anything else, I just can´t agree with him lol, just like most of the people here can´t.
