Jake.
Let go off the brake when you jump, simple as that. Up to you if you want to use them on landing or not.

ghostrider88
Don´t pedal too much and release the brake a bit later.

LiamWood!
Let go of your brake after you have preloaded and as you start to jump up, let go of your brake. There really isn't much to it.

Tom Booth
I think you'd benefit from backing your brakes off abit Toby, when I rode your bike the other night there really isn't much travel in your levers.

Blake
everyone used to say how far in they go... now they dont go in that much thats wrong too? im confused lol You want it so you can still pull the lever in a bit without the pads hitting the rim, because you're never going to be able to fully extend your finger off the brake lever when you're going something big. Carlperkins
when i keep the brakes locked i can do about 5 pallets really? i cant even imagine doing a sidehop with brakes locked. surely thats harder?

This. And it feels horrible when the lever bites directly.
ghostrider88
really? i cant even imagine doing a sidehop with brakes locked. surely thats harder? It is harder and you are also jumping backwards a lot instead of going straight up.
N.Wood
Don't think of the pedal kick as a kick in the same way as a gap or whatever. You don't really kick at all...

Jake.
youtu.be/gq4rL-UFI6M?t=48s Watch Danny when he sidehops to rear, he kicks the wheel forward. I've seen a couple of people do this for sidehops to rear but hardly ever when going to 2 wheels, any reason for this? I've seen a couple of people do this for sidehops to rear but hardly ever when going to 2 wheels, any reason for this? ahh i see the wheel go forwards a little bit then straight up You want it so you can still pull the lever in a bit without the pads hitting the rim, because you're never going to be able to fully extend your finger off the brake lever when you're going something big. my lever pulls in maybe about an inch and half then it locks? really? i cant even imagine doing a sidehop with brakes locked. surely thats harder? yh its easy you just get on back wheel, settle, crouch, then JUMP!! It is harder and you are also jumping backwards a lot instead of going straight up. i dont really go backwards i dont think? ill have to upload a quick vid tomorrow in the day so you can see Don't think of the pedal kick as a kick in the same way as a gap or whatever. You don't really kick at all... i suppose im still used to kicking forwards because i only practice gaps and pedal-ups really thanks for the advice people really helps
ghostrider88
If you can go straight up to 5pallets without pedaling, you´re magician lol.
BradJohnson
Set up parallel to the wall with the rear wheel about 8" away. Look at the wall. Preload by squatting your body and compressing the tyre. (Your strong foot should automaticly move up a few clicks, this helps to give more power into the move) Use explosive kick along with bringing your body up, and as soon as you leave the ground let the brake out and continue by using your tuck to get you onto the wall. You need to do all of this super fast.
