persistant_itch
Hey all, Probably going to be laughed at here But could someone explain to me the major differences between 24 trials and 26? Ive been looking for an inspired as some of you might know, and I've seen some hexes and some fourplays im seriously considering, especially a hex thats in the for sale forum. My main issue is, whats the difference in the ride and the things you can do on them? i understand the wheels are bigger and the geo slightly different, but is the 24 easier to ride? Any help is appreciated thanks
ashleys sugden
i have a 24" echo with a tarty mod stem and a few spacers, and it feels insane, so much control, but my mate has a 26" because simple, i tried that out with a standard 26" stem (which a normally low) and i didnt like it, but a few weeks later he bought the same stem as mine for it, and i couldnt really tell the difference and they were are similar sort of length, but i prefer my 24" as i feel im not big enough for a 26" yet. but its personal preference what you like. but i think the stem makes all the difference! Revolver
26" bikes seem to feel slower than 24"s. If you're used to it, it's fine, but for me, it's sluggish. It might help riding smoother, though. A 24", being smaller and slightly lighter, is easier to chuck around as far as manoeuvres go.

Yeah thats what i thought, because the dj i have now is 26, and when it comes to the front end control or rotation its pretty tough, although that could be because of me! ha
BradJohnson
I ride an echo 24 with a tryall 3d stem and it feels so nice. I tried a few stocks too which feel nice, but they feel too big for me even though i'm 6ft 3".
persistant_itch
Thats another thing i was wondering, would height come into it, Im six foot like, but again is it stem height rather than anything else?
Revolver
You're on about a street-style bike, it sounds. People keep describing regular stock trials bikes which is a different kettle of fish. The trend is to have monster-high bars on a street bike anyway, just not too far forward. This would suit a tall dude anyway. If you're 6 foot, you're about the same height as me. You won't need a particularly high front end, really. persistant_itch
Yeah id be trying streety stuff mostly id say, so you reckon a 26 would be much the same?
CalopS
Yeah id be trying streety stuff mostly id say, so you reckon a 26 would be much the same? 24 is easier streety stuff. Top riders like Ali and Ben Travis have made the move down from 26. I wouldn't say it was the same. You can just use lots of stem stackers if you are tall like Ben Rowlands. persistant_itch
Cool so overall the 24 is an easier bike for street riding?
ogre
smaller wheels are marginally flicker than their larger counterparts, but i was never any good at streety riding, but if you consider rotational mass a smaller wheel will create less resistance than a bigger wheel, so spins and shit are probably easier. i remember ali c saying he was just to used to 26" to get on with a 24" so if your well into a certain wheel size it might be worth sticking with what you know... Jake.
I've ridden both for pure trials, I love both. But at the end of the day I'm staying with stock, I may go back to 24" pure trials when the market is bigger (hardly any frames, wheels, tyres etc). 24" is flickier, feels a bit like a mod. 26" I can go bigger, more confident at everything. I'm 5'11" No idea about street though, sorry.
CalopS
No idea about street though, sorry. What was the point in replying then? You'll just confuse the guy like Ash and Brad already did.
Danny00135
You have to think about whats available on the market too, street wise you'll have a much wider range of products for 24"..

In case he was wondering about pure trial 24, I put it out there for him. What's the harm in extra knowledge? I wouldn't confuse him if I state it was pure trial style before I said anything. persistant_itch
Thanks for all the replies, no it doesn't hurt at all, I'm looking to learn as much as I can! Yeah I was thinking that the 24 would be a better option overall, with it being a bit more manoeuvrable and more parts available like
trialsquirt
it's 26" that has more parts available
