hs11 vs hs33

Ok thanks ! Torx bolts and lever don't annoy me, but plastic clamps are pure shit !

As you said Dave they leak after 3 months ... This is their big problem.

I've heard from pretty sure source that new HS33 were on the way ... Radial piston like 05 ones, but still in 'plastic' (carbotecture) so I imagine leaking problems will be still here. They would looks like MT disc brakes levers.

Maybe these will become the HS33, and the actual HS33/HS11 will become the HS11 ? Only time will said ...

To illustrate what I was saying the other day (weeks ago) with Dave33 (I think ?) :

Scratch in the bore wich cause the brake to leaks.

img0344mb.jpg

Plus the way I opened the body we can't see the scratch "on the top and on the bottom of the bore".

The left body was leaking a lot, the right a bit less.

I change them about every 3 months.

I have 05 hs33 but I prefer keeping them for competitions !

I can't remember to be honest, but my guess is that it's todo with the lever body flexing and rubbing the piston as its shape is destorted

As the marks seem to be in line with the pivoting action

But yea I hope they can sort it. But as its only a problem for us trials guys I can't see magura doing much.

Has any one had theirs replaced on warranty ?

Iv got a pair that started to leak after a month or so that came on my sky. Didn't bother sending them back to tarty as it would have probly started another argument.

From what i know, the main difference is that the hs33 comes with th evo adaptors, and the hs11 dont.

I´ve test´em, and for me the most powerfull is the 05 with 4 finger blade + rockman blue pads with cnc inserts.

Yep, we have warrantied a few.

They would have gone to Cyclemart, as you got the bike from them? Therefore nothing to do with us as you have been keen to point out in the past.

Trial represents a very small pourcentage of their market I don't think they will do it again just for us ...

I'm not sure how true this is, how often do you see maguras on any other bikes in the UK? occasionally ill see some 04 levers or whatever, but every discipline worth talking about uses disc brakes nowadays. granted, when in germany you will see them slightly more frequently on commuter bikes, but rarely on performance bikes. Imagine how many hs33's throughout the years trials riders have used and abused, I personally have had 5-6 of them before they die. lets say every rider runs front and rear maggies, there are what, 5,000 riders in the UK? thats 10,000 units. mass produced and expensive. they make ALOT from trials riders, therefore maybe they should make a trials specific brake? they clearly have the money and the tooling to update models, and i'm sure they wouldn't have just binned there previous tooling.so it wouldn't even be too much effort to make the 05 again and tweak the design a little. whether it is material, manufacturing process, extra bracing, metal TPAs etc.

maggies were weak because they were cast, should have used cnc them from the start. if done properly, could have been excellent for years. but again, what company want to make a product that lasts forever, they wont sell many more once everyone has one. therefore i conclude that magura could easily have made them weak to begin with intentionally purely for sales. although i like to think that isnt the case.

Tandems and trekking bikes use them quite a bit (apparently). All of the changes made to the 2005 brake were to make it cheaper and easier for companies to use them as an OEM brake because that's where Magura's money comes from rather than the limited amount they sell as OEM for trials companies or aftermarket in the trials world.

They've tried to make it more open for trials riders with the 'Trial Edition' brake, but I doubt they'll ever do much more than that. Our old rep came round with some of the 2011 brakes before they were released and said that he didn't think trials riders would like them as much but they were aiming them at the bike manufacturers.

For some one who doesn't work for tarty you seem to know a hell of a lot. Edited by dave33

i dare saying that it was probably the case magura checked their stock remainings and thought:"hey, what should we do with all those carbon parts that lay around cracked and somebody said:lets shred them!and another guy noticed there is a lot of plastic granulate left and thought:what should we do with it?and somebody said:lets melt it!

then someone came across and said:hey what about mixin both the plastic and the carbon stuff and build something from that trash to make some money?

and they said:hey its 2011,the world will end in 2012,who will notice after all?

voila,actual lever body.

i love the thought of it beeing this way, seeing no technical advantage of the new design.

i hope it for them

pretty sure I remember a rep saying that Magura want to use the same bodies from their disc brakes on the rim brakes to save money. not quite sure how that will work as there doesn't seem to be room to fit a 14mm piston. If they do just use the same lever, perhaps this will be the final straw and people will start using V brakes more.

No doubt there will always be some after market lever available to please people though (think Echo and that CNCed lever Stan is using).
