Higher BB Frame.

I currently have a 55bb stock, 1080wb, 72ha, 380cs... I've been thinking about getting a frame with a higher bb rise for the last month or so, I tried out Paul Turners Limey 4, and it felt great on the back wheel, but I didn't really give it enough of a try to see if I would get one for sure (due to the bash being set up for right foot forward, and I'm left foot forward, I didn't want to destroy his Ti ffw!).

My question is, other than 2 wheel moves, what will a higher bb stock be worse for? And other than feeling better and more stable when hopping on rear wheel, what's it better for?

I'm currently looking at the 2013 GU frame, and the Limey 4 frame.

Also, why do people say being left foot forward is bad? Just curious to see some opinions on that too.

Who says that?

Just a few random people I've met on rides, whom I can't recall. But I remember trials hoe from here telling me that left footed people are the devils minions or something haha. :P

Yeah I was happy to see a few top riders left footed, made me feel a bit better haha.

I prefer a high bb stock for just about anything. Thats just me though. Moves up to front are miles easier, gaps up to front etc... moves on the front wheel are easier in general.
As you noted, rear wheel control is easier, especially if you ride natural and need pin point accuracy (not saying you need a high bb to be so accurate, I found it makes it easier).

I bang on about how my old Ozonys Curve is the best stock Ive ridden, and that has a lower BB, but its probably the only low bb stock Ive liked.
If I went stock now and couldnt get hold of one, Id definately go for the new GU or a Limey 4.

Thanks Sam, just what I needed. I'm going for a new frame for sure now, just need to decide which one. The GU 2013 frame just came in on tarty as well for exactly the same price, haha.

Their geometries are almost identical.

Limey 4

Wheelbase: 1090mm
Chainstay Length: 380mm
BB Rise: 70mm
Head Angle: 72°
Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 650mm

Gu 2013

Wheelbase: 1095mm
Chainstay Length: 380mm
BB Rise: 70mm
Head Angle: 71 degrees
Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 660mm

I'm not entirely clued up on geometries, but will those teeny differences between the frames make a big difference?

I'm a bit of an old school rider so I'm used to lower bb heights, but I found higher bb tends to put your weight further back which makes landing moves harder (I struggled with gaps, taps and hooks with a higher bb (40mm+) plus I can sidehop my 24" Inspired higher than I can a +70mm stock.

People seem to overcome this with longer stems to get the weight forwards, but that wasn't an option for me as I never wanted to ride a bike I couldn't lift the front wheel without a pedal kick.

Shouldn't say they would make a massive difference no.
They both have nice geometries, in my eyes anyway. I think you'd be happy with both.

Id probably choose the Limey 4, but thats only because I prefer a shorter bike. Feel spot on with a 150x30 stem.

high bb is gay..

Your gay.

My Ice was lush, the Limey 320 is lush, my 24" was lush.

All +70.

No I don't mean like that, obviously before making a purchase it makes sense to look at the geo.

But on here like, it's almost as if it's a cut off point of if you get this BB height you will find it good, 5mm more and you won't be able to ride it.

I don't think you'd benefit going any higher jake, +55 is already very high.

I felt a huge difference riding Pauls limey 4, I know I wouldn't benefit much but I have some christmas money and I want to treat myself to some bits... The new GU and the Limey 4 are the 2 frames I'd like to transfer to next, unless another real nice frame I liked came out before then.

Dan, you say people spend too much time focusing on figures and not riding. I am riding as much as I can, I just come on the forum and look at bikes a lot, so it's inevitable for me to stumble upon geometries and spend some time working them out and deciding which may be best for me. :)

I'm 5"11 if that makes any difference, I currently use 25mm ish stackers and a 127x30 stem. I'd most likely use the new K2 stem with a new frame, with no stackers. I think I'm leaning towards the Limey at the moment, mainly due to the fact I can get one for £100 cheaper than the GU.
