Luke Dunstan
I've been thinking since Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (Argentinian President) wrote that letter to David Cameron.. If Argentina invaded the Falklands again tomorrow, would we send troops out in the same fashion as in 1982? I would have thought that Cameron wouldn't do anything, but then is he obligated to do something becuase we have British citizens on the the Islands? What do you guys think? Tony Harrison
Who f'cking knows. I'll probably celebrate when Thatcher finally f'cks off and dies, but you have to hand it to her for how she handled the Falklands. People on here in the forces will have a better idea, but I'm not so sure we have the same capability we did then. No Sea Harriers either : ( The Falklands is an 'Overseas Territory', so presumably you'd hope that Britain would defend it if it came under attack. That's not to say that Britain couldn't choose to give it to Argentina, like when we gave Hong Kong back to China.
Skoze
Very true, but i seem to remember seeing a lot about how the majority of people there are happy staying British. Seems a bit f**ked up given it's just a little island...
Luke Dunstan
4,700 sq miles, bigger than you think! Apparently the whole island are proud to be British and are holding a referendum this year to show this to Argentina. Even though they won't care. AndrewEH1
As long as the majority of islanders want to be British then the island should be British. As for if Argentina did invade? Unlikely, we would do better than you think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_the_Falkland_Islands, but no doubt all forces have been briefed and have plans laid out should anything kick off. Although like in 1982 we would probably get some support from the US and other South American countries if we wanted it. Britian would have to react Also, didn't realise that war started in April 2nd... Edited January 4, 2013 by AndrewEH1
