Sam Song
First of all Happy Holidays everyone I have been doing lots of sidehops lately and I can sidehop around 34 inches right now. I always set up for a sidehop hopping or standing on the rear tire and that's what everyone seems to be doing. Today, I decided to experiment. From trackstanding, I would pedal kick to the rear, then without any hopping on the rear wheel, I would do the sidehop straightaway. I conserve a lot of energy sidehopping this way and I actually broke my sidehop record doing it the new way! My question is: Should I practice sidehopping the new way or should I just set up for side hop the conventional way (for higher sidehops over 40 inches)? customrider-Rhys
the way you tried recently is good for big power ups but the control is lost, its more a fly and hope you get it right, i would practice the normal way! that way you have more control off what your doing, you'll get bigger and you can use it for more precise moves, you wouldn't want to go strait to rear then sidehop on to a rail, you would want a nice setup Edited December 28, 2012 by customrider-Rhys
ghostrider88
Why not keep practising both?

Sam Song
Yup I would practice both, but my sidehops haven't been getting any higher with the old way, so I am just asking if there is a point of doing it that way. ChrisTrials2012
Damon Watson is a prime example of what you tried, in hashtag one, his massive side hop was done that way.
Sam Song
Check out Benito's sidehops starting at 1:28 mark, it certainly is interesting how he is the only rider who starts from both wheels, but also how he wins! Lol yeah mines the same, i can do bar comfortable but above is pushing it, it takes time thats all, the same with every move when you reach bar
dave33
You get more pre load into the muscle if you jump up and come down like that, the same as if you done a jump from standstill or one with a jump
