What about if it instantly made you 5 years older when you accepted it..?

Definitely not. Missing 5 years of your life (where stuff actually happens that you've missed) seems much worse than losing 5 years off the end. Imagine just waking up next to some girl with a ring on her finger an you have no idea who she is or something. Some of your mates/relatives are dead and you didn't get to say bi or enjoy the last few years.

How do you figure that if you didn't die instantly you would be guaranteed to live for 5 years? You could potentially be going to die in 6 years, and if you take the deal, you'd be dead in 1.

Yer I kinda missed that haha. Epic thread by the way.

I disagree again, purely because most of the activities that one can enjoy, cost money. If you have loads of money then you can do stuff all the time.

I probably think this way because I have been skint for vast periods of time and it really does limit what you can do, then again that's probably just my lifestyle as well

See that's just where we differ I guess and is purely a matter of preference. Sure I like to do fun stuff that costs money, but some of the best times I've had have been hitchhiking and sleeping rough. Money makes you more of a tourist in most of the world and prevents you getting into the culture and really exploring in a poor country, purely because people treat you differently.

Same could be said right this moment, with or without the fake 1 million deal. You could suffer a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, stroke - bang you're dead.

I don't want to live past 70 and I've said to my family that if I ever get crippled or have a brain injury, they are to kill me - that's not even a joke.

That's hardly the same though. If your chances of dying are 1/60000 per day for example (I'm just plucking numbers out the air to illustrate a point here), then over 5 years the chances of dying will be 1800/60000 or whatever. Granted I can understand people being able to take that risk, but it's not the same. Your actively making a choice that could make you die on the spot.

Who the hell wants to live to an age where you have no mobility, you can't think straight, you can't remember your family or friends, you practically need a diaper... the list just goes on and on

Hell, gimme that million any day and I'll give 7 years of life.

A large amount of old people aren't like that though. As long as I've got my mind and have lived a good life I'll be a happy man. Personally I think the whole 'I've told my family and friends to kill me if I'm crippled' is a bit of a headstrong, immature attitude that you'd probably reevaluate if you were ever actually crippled. Especially for the people around you.

I would.

People say it's not a life changing amount, but think of it this way, im 22, so if i didn't buy anything stupid like a house, ect, 1 million is equal to 20k to live on for the next 50 years of your life.

Even if you didn't spend the majority of it, I'd live a lot happier know there's that money sat in the bank for a rainy day.

anything stupid like a house, ect

Yeah, actually owning somewhere to live is stupid... :ermm:

I'd get hooked up with a roof over my head, which I'd rent our for 6 months at a time to cover the mortgage while I travel and live the high life off the excess funds and work a little on the side to keep me ticking over/from getting bored.

That said, £1m really isn't a huge deal any more, so probably wouldn't be worth the risk for 5 years to me personally, given that I'll likely die at 35 anyway :P

Yes but could you make up for 5 years by making the others better with £1m

I say - yes 100 %

Edit - the quote looks broken in mobile?

I'd take the mil. You'd regret taking it, you'd regret not taking it. Probably.

I know you'd loose allot of appreciation for stuff, as allot of spoiled kids do. But atm, i have a shit job, i'm injured, and it's raining. This would fix them three things.

No one can say what they'd feel when they're old/ retired/ retarded. A majority of these people are literally living on hope. The ones that aren't, are having holidays, or down the allotment.
