Azarathal
Hey guys, recently destroyed my starnut and need to know what size starnut is needed for my trialtech 26" forks. Now for the headset. It's been continously coming loose, in a 4 hour ride it came so loose the bars rocked slightly when on the back wheel. Is this because the starnut was pulling out resulting in insufficient headset preload or is the headset f**ked? Headset is a kopanda (copy of an echo sl, im replacing it with an sl after Christmas anyway) Cheers guys!

Need a starnut because of my sloping stem With the 20" version I have, I use a 'Small' star nut. This is most likely the same on stock but again can't be sure, this post doesn't really help either.. Need a starnut because of my sloping stem O_M_G. Just use regular big starnut and hammer. Works fine for me over a year.

Azarathal
Cheers guys I'm not going down the "use a massive starnut and smash it with a hammer route" Any idea whether the headsets dead or the starnuts been slowly pulling out and not letting me preload it enough? dave33
None of these posts really help I need to know which size to buy not here a discussion. Need a starnut because of my sloping stem you can use the normal 1 1/8" but you just need to grind it down a bit, just by eye is fine. you can also just grind the slots a bit deeper helps it to flex a bit more with out snapping. Starnut is there only to set the right tension, not to keep it tight, that´s what steerer clamp bolts are for.
Azarathal
Echo SL Headset and small starnut are on the post-christmas shopping list then, cheers guys!
dave33
Starnut is there only to set the right tension, not to keep it tight, that´s what steerer clamp bolts are for. yea but some times with steel steerer or carbon steerer the stem wont grip so well, and if you used a trouqe wrench and used the 5nm or what ever it is it will come lose with out a good star nut. it actually helps alot
ghostrider88
Does he have carbon or steel steerer?
315r
I tried to put a smallest one in a tryaltech and the starnut died in the procces. I didn't have more small starnuts, then I tried to put one bigger and I had to grind a little bit to fit in the hole and used a hammer with brutality, AHAHA! but it seems that it's stronger. No problems with it after 5 months of ridding.
dave33
Does he have carbon or steel steerer? no, i was talking in general terms of the dsgin of the A-headset use in the world of trials.I tried to put a smallest one in a tryaltech and the starnut died in the procces. BradJohnson
Your local Halfords should have the star nut in stock. It's the smaller one, the 1 inch. As for the headset, i lay money on it being the starnut's fault the headset is coming loose. Fit your new star nut and tighten the top cap until it feels reasonably tight, but not to much that it doesnt turn. And you should be laughing.
