harmertrials
Some of the most awesome cinematography to have come out of the bike world, 720p enjoy. (Don't be put off by the excessive intro) http://youtu.be/evJclGGjXlo Edited December 17, 2012 by harmertrials
AndrewEH1
Got this on Blu-ray, well worth the £10.
manuel
Ive seen it before, it just seems a bit self indulgent. Its exactly the kinda film i expect someone to make if they had just been given a RED and told to go play. lots of high frame rate and beautiful scenery.
Matt_F
Some great scenery in the film. I quite like some of the films The Collective have done over the years. Great locations and biking rolled in to one.
Rusevelt
Amazing cinematography. Thomas Vanderham's huge air at 35:17 was something else.
Miss-Higgy
Just watched it on the 60" tele.. My jaw is still on the floor from its epicness, it gave me tingles, happy, sad and a whole bundle of other stuff exactly what a full feature length film should do.. Not just a film about the life cycle of a bike...
rupintart
I bought this vid when it came out. i personally think as a riding video, it sucked. Riding videos are supposed to get somebody itching to ride. This video fails horribly at that. It's like an film student who rides and was told to make a really artsy riding video. It f**king KILLS at that. It's in a league of it's own in that regard. It's a video that's good for admiring cinematography and the scenery. It's a good video to be playing in a bike shop or in a television/electronics store (i.e. what a store manager that rides would have playing) where you can watch it for amazing shots and really exploiting a TVs picture. But as a riding video. It sucks. Less scenery, more riding.
monkeyseemonkeydo
I simply don't have the patience to watch something like that... As said above- as a riding video it sucked. I tried fast forwarding through to find the riding but all that was pretty samey fast singletrack so I gave up. Very 'pretty' but not for me. skuzzbucket
these vids don't normally do it for me as i have no where to really ride in the same context. and would of normally done the same as Action dave above BUT this time i was taken by the intro and was lured into the film and its nice to see a video that shows some thought and patiences put in to the finished result. not just a load of clips cut together with a few songs played over the top. does remind me of the BS STYLEZ roadtrip vids. so glad i watch it gives me a few thoughts towards my on video project. Mark W
I tried fast forwarding through to find the riding but all that was pretty samey fast singletrack so I gave up. Very 'pretty' but not for me. Sounds like the majority of MTB videos these days. It's cool that the quality has upped, but there's just no real 'emotion' (I was going to say 'soul' but even using the word emotion made me want to punch myself) behind a lot of them, it's just a case of seeing how much they can blow on HD cameras and zip-wires. Videos like Earthed and Sprung showcased riding in a really cool way because they were focussed on the riding rather than trying to show how technically proficient they are. Obviously things have to move on, but if you totally remove the connection with riding then you're totally removing the point of videos in the first place.
Jake.
Watched the whole thing with my dad, we loved it but would have liked to seen more riding.
monkeyseemonkeydo
I guess I just don't have the attention span to cope with all the BS. It just seemed like a 45 minute long Baz Luhrmann 'everybody's free to wear sunscreen' monologue...
AndrewEH1
Well if you compare this with 'Where the Trail Ends' I much prefer this. Sure the riding might be more exciting in 'Where the Trail Ends' but it is all just sand/mountain. I guess how amped it gets you depends on the type of riding you do, this makes me want to head to the trails and ride all day so does the job perfectly. Ali C
MTB videos peaked with the Earthed series, since then everything went downhill (no pun intened). Earthed really had the "cool" factor, showing riding at it's rawest all the way up to the top level world champs. No un-nessacary equipment, just cool shots that make me feel like I'm there myself. Where The Trail ends really annoyed me. I thought it came across a bit patronising and the riding was good, but it never made me go "wow". Same with Life Cycles.....too much work on the shots rather than capturing the fun and thrill of riding. Again I never really went "wow" when watching it and I was kind of glad when it ended. Rusevelt
You saying you didn't like The Collective, or Roam, which were clearly a progression in the way MTB videos were filmed and edited?
J.KYDD
Earthed 2 was so damn good. Victory by the guys @ MtbCut was also a really sick film. I'm also a big fan of MTB films which follow that years DH racing season. 3 minute gaps was so good Edited December 19, 2012 by J.KYDD
Mark W
You saying you didn't like The Collective, or Roam, which were clearly a progression in the way MTB videos were filmed and edited? I really didn't like Roam that much. It just seemed to pretty much be an endless sequence of long glide cam style shots of people just pedalling along (even if you're pedalling along fast on a bit of straight-ish singletrack, it's still just pedalling along...), close-ups of people railing berms, close-up slow-mos of dirt flicking up, etc. It just didn't really seem to be as much about capturing the feeling of riding as it was them showing off they had some cool cameras to play with. This. I think NWD was the last video where it actually had good riding with the cinematography that people like about this film. It had varied terrain, varied riding, and different riders in it. Life Cycles and the other films mentioned seem to be all about fancy cameras, zip lines, and massive mountains and sand that nobody can ride. It's kinda like watching Red bull Rampage....but it's not a competition, it's just them riding, which sucks, cause that's stuff that nobody can or will ever relate to; it's just too massive and dramatized.
