After the massive f**kup with the damper cartridge in my marzocchi forks (see angry thread) I've cut open the dead cartridge, measured all of the components and modelled them in solidworks.  Planning on converting it to a fully user servicable unit (marzocchi seal the rc3 cartridge by roll swaging the ends on) with an adjustable compression shim stack rather than the sprung orifice plate that is currently in there.

It will involve designing and machining a replacement cartridge base plug and compression adjuster rod (both were destroyed by the spark eroders) and there are going to be some pretty fine threads to cut into there.  Once I've got a design and some drawings together I'm going to approach the guys who buggered it up in the first place and see if they'll machine the two components as a good will guesture :)

I done modelled me a new compression damper for my damaged rc3 cartridge (see angry thread) and come to realise that I only need to remanufacture a couple of components in order to reassemble to forks in working order.  Because I'm an injunear that likes to complicate things I'm going to put an adjustable shim stack in there instead of the simpler sprung check plate marzocchi put in.

Hmmmm shiny!

I've approached the guys who damaged the cart in the first place and they're happy to machine a couple of components if I sort out the drawings :)

It's a compression damper, you know the bits on the corner of you car that allows the wheels to controllably move up and down ;)

This one is from the suspension forks on my mountain bike, does the same job but much smaller and adjustable damping so it can be tuned to the usage.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm happy or angry

Following the death of my old forks I picked up some cheap 2014 55 micro switch ta forks from pinkbike, a burlier chassis and more travel than I needed but they will work nicely. Advertised as good condition with little use and checked by a local shop.

They arrived today and they're not 2014 55s, they're 2010 44 micro ti and in dire need of a service, both seals blown and gritty adjusters all round.

Completely different forks in a condition far worse than advertised.

The upside is he's happy to refund some money to cover servicing them and the fact they're 4 years older than stated. The 44 chassis also fits the intense frame better, is lighter and means that I have now have 2 sets of the same year and model forks which should have largely interchangeable components.

The machinists are happy with my design for the cartridge rebuild and the drawings I've produced so alk being well I should be able to fully restore the damaged forks as well :)

Well I think I'm planning on keeping both sets, the micro ti are lighter (being air forks) and have lockout but aren't quite as plush (being air forks) as the rc3ti so I'm sort of torn as to which bike gets which forks.  Do I put the micro ti on the intense and drop another 200g off the build weight or do I put the plushy plushness on there?  The micro ti would probably do quite well on the chameleon SS because I could then just stand and torque up climbs where the lockout would be a good benefit.  I could then sell the z1 bams on the chameleon to help recoup funds :)

Only problem with the micro ti on the chameleon would be that I would need to sort out a 15mm through hub for it, no major biggy though.
