Bit o' long term rent. With houses making no money at the moment I don't really fancy paying a ton of stamp duty and a deposit on a mortgage that isn't going to be making any money - that money can be better used elsewhere for now!

Yea, we'll move into the new place (whether it's this one or something else) to get her place empty so we can finish it off with some space, then get that rented out. That'll cover most of the costs of the new place so it's not a massive step up in money for a much nicer place and area. Excited!

Or you can see it from another light.. When renting you're just paying someone else's mortgage! :P House prices are going to be stagnant for 15/20 years most likely (unless you live London/south east where it's a bit shorter) why not buy somewhere smaller below the sdlt threshold? I obviously don't know the market where you are or personal circumstances, but yeah..

Between us we already have a property, so we're kind of hedging our bets. This way there's lots of flexibility should our circumstances change, and I can use some of the cash we've stashed for a potential deposit on something more likely to make mid term gains during that 10 year period. Kind of like a spread betting system I guess...

Congrats dude! Time flies huh, celebrating 8 months with mine soon. Feels like yesterday I was asking for shit loads of advice about meeting her mum for the first time on the girl thread ha. Well not so much celebrating but it's coming up to that
