Lower leg service on revelations is piss easy Ali, if you wanted to do it yourself. Parts shouldn't be more than £20.

I got my missus a Specialized Myka, she is 5'4" but plumped for the small 15" as she was between that and a medium. WSD is much better as the top tubes are real short, she loves hers.

Yeah, Soph's had a 17" Boardman ladies' hardtail for the past year and it's been perfect in terms of the fit so need to find something similar. The FS is a 16" frame but given it's not women-specific I'm pretty sure it has a longer reach than the hardtail. I'd like to get her on a proper chicks FS frame though so the fit is a little better. Once she's had a few more rides on it we should be able to work out where to go next (or, in an ideal world, what cheap tweak will make it best without spending so much!)

Managed to get a week in Wales last summer with her which she really enjoyed, so with any luck the upgraded bike should help boost her confidence and up the enjoyment a little more too. Full build has come in at similar money - I think the last running total was around £480 plus a little more for a few drivetrain bits we need to finish it off :)

That's good to know about the forks :)

My gf is also about 5'4", if the 16" is too big I'll just sell up the frame and look for something a little smaller, I had been looking at the WSD fsr Specializes but it's not often they come up as frames :(

I'm hoping making the bike comfier, grippier and easier to stop will make riding more fun for Jane, she's really keen to ride but finds it pretty terrifying at the moment. I'm sure she'll grow to like it if she keeps at it though.

Related (kinda) we both went to Rise trampoline park today and she was shitting herself about that too, mostly the idea of going upside down. After a few mins getting used to it she eventually tried front flips and very nearly landed a few to feet :) I am happy cos I managed frontflips, backflips and backflip 180s :)

Can't wait till the one next to my flat opens :D

16" should be fine, the med in the specialized is 17" which we decided would be a little large, and a smaller frame would probably give her a little more confidence with standover height etc.

Depends on the frame though I guess, I ride a 16" mtb which is a bit small for someone 6'1", but has a decidedly long TT and I can just run the saddle high and seems to work well.

Distant, don't see much of each other anymore, his / our interests changed and I moved 10 miles away.

just how things go really, we still get along and stuff but idk we may cross paths at some point if I get into bmx or he gets back into trials

He went by 'drstix' but I think he changed it to 'Blake_18' or something?

tbf matt half of your bike was made up from parts george gave you like the entire back wheel and back brake so it's fair really

Ended up buying a Rockshox Revelation fork for £100 yesterday, it's ok, usual marks for a 5~ year old fork, deffo needs a service though, the thing I'm happy about is that I've just found a pair of brand new Fox Floats with the upgraded FIT system locally on Gumtree for £210. I popped the Rockshox on ebay for £140 and I'm already getting interest (had an offer for £120 which I've counter offered at £130). Bearing in mind I would have had to pay to get the forks serviced to get working properly I don't mind paying a little bit more for a shiny new modern Fox which will work better than the Rockshox ever would.

Edit, just sold the Rockshox for £130, very handy :)

I would have kept the revelations! There's just something about fox forks that screams over complicated with lots of servicing to do.

This is probably completely unfounded and is based on never having ridden on fox forks, however the performance of my 7 year old rebas is phenomenal, just wish they had another inch or so of travel :)

This was basically my thinking. Did have my eye on a few sets of Foxs but having been really happy with my old Rebas I was more than happy to pick up 2 sets of Rev World Cups (carbon crown/steerer models) in both XX and BB flavours for minimal funds. One for me, one for Soph, boom!

I really liked my pikes I had years ago but then again I really liked my float 36s I had. I'm sure the revelations could have got their suppleness back but I think they needed a bit of work. By the time I've driven to the shop, got them serviced and paid for spare parts they'd be at the price of these brand new Fox Float 32s.

Fair call if they weren't in good operable condition!

For what it's worth my 32's are plusher than my old 'zocchis, they were very very nice forks to ride but the fox just seem nicer all round. They're consistent on all terrain whereas the marzocchis only felt really good when being hammered.

Found me a full time job in a computer refurbishment company taking apart things and testing to see what works and putting the parts on ebay.

Loads of opportunities to progress and branch off into specialist areas within the company and a its based a short cycle across town

was a nice little ego boost when he told me 50 people had applied and I was the only one to get an interview. the interviewer said she was pretty impressed with my CV, mainly because of my 'voluntary' positions with smaller tech repair companies

I start Tuesday and to top off the good times I managed to gather a good amount of people for a hop about on Sunday, also drinks tonight for my dads birthday.

:shades: cool beans :shades:
