The Happy Thread

I really, really want to turbo my car but I don't have the funds at the moment.

Numbers seem to vary so much too - some people say 2k for a turbo build, others say £800. I'm not looking for crazy numbers like 220-240bhp, I'd be happy with 170/180. Surely it can't cost that much, re-con turbo's are what, £300? Manifold £150?

What else am I missing?

Intercooler (and pipework), ECU. I looked at it and decided I'd need £1500 for a reliable 50bhp increase.

Drove a boosted 5 on track on Saturday, only running actuator pressure for reliability (5psi) - it solved the 'deadly slow' issue, but took a bit to get used to the power delivery and (relatively) poor throttle response. Not sure I liked it. Had MUCH more fun in a standard 90bhp UK model, thrashing the shit out of it and bullying everything apart from a Radical SR8 in the corners, lol.

Injectors

Fuel pump

Pressure reg

Mapping

Associated electrical management bits

Cooling (air and upgraded water ideally)

Hoses

Compression drop (ideally pistons, can get away with stacked head gasket/spacer)

Exhaust will need to be bigger for proper gains though not 100% necessary to get going

Oil feeds and shit you don't think about for the turbo

Studs, nuts, gaskets

etc, etc, etc :P

Has The Happy Thread just become the car thread?

Had a few laps on Saturday at Snetterton (in the snow, haha!) in a Exige S. We followed a racing liveried MX-5 around for a while, not much in the corners between the 2, but killed it on the straights. RWD is so much better for the track, going in the Exige really opened my eyes that I may well be wasting an awful lot of time and money on my over-powered shopping trolley :P

I had already considered small things like nuts, hoses, cooling... I meant big cost items. That list is still bigger than I expected though.

I guess I'm going to be better off just buying an already turbo'd 5 then really.

Given the shape your last 205 ended up, I'm not sure sticking a 1.8t lump in one is the wisest choice! :P

In a semi related subject my Dad used to run a 205 with a turbo diesel out of his old 405 estate. That thing was a f**king weapon, possibly deadly.....

So f**king sick.

I stumbled upon a jukebox page on Facebook, the admin is the guy I bought the jukebox from! I posted in there abit of a build showing shabby-> restored and just stated I run a small restoration buisness.

I've had 3 job offers in 10 minutes and a lot of interest from a dealer who imports from the states, he's local too! So stoked it's unreal.

Well the U.S importer came through...

Ok.

So I was all set to buy Pierre, the French Bulldog. 16 weeks old this weekend, so he went off for his Kennel Club checks, vaccinations and health assessments.

Unfortunately he has health implications, and has collapsed/restricted airways. Which would mean I couldn't get pet insurance for him, and his chances of having a heart attack from trying to regulate his temperature are high. The lady I was buying him from was very upset, because it will mean he will have a greatly reduced lifespan. She isn't happy to give him to me and she wants to keep him for herself because she's so conscious of his potentially short life span and the implications his ongoing health problems.

This made me unhappy.

When I was considering getting a French Bulldog, I wasn't even considering getting a French Bulldog. I was considering getting a Sphinx cat, but then Pierre came up and I had to have him.

Aaaaaanyway, what with Pierre now being un-homable I still felt like I need a pet. I've had a cat at my house forever, and they're considerably less upkeep than a dog.

So I spent two hours with what can only be described as the ultimate cat lady, and now have a deposit on Spartacus the Sphinx kitten. Who I believe to be second up from the bottom in the below picture.

Yep, I've bought a hairless cat called Spartacus.

Did the woman get the deal on the car still?

Yeah, not her fault that a puppy has got health problems. It's really sad, the rest of the litter are sold and had no problems, but she is so conscious that she can't re-home Pierre now that she feels obliged to keep him and give him the best life ever.

The least I could do was sell her a car cheap.
