The Happy Thread

I didn't like mine cos I worked way more being a full timer but paid the bloody same as part timers. Every week my hours was different, early shift or late shift and I could never plan ahead to do anything cos I don't know what my hours were the following week. No overtime pay although they gave me time off which was useless.

I worked in Bikehut, although the people I worked with were nice majority of them couldn't do anything remotely technical with the bikes. One guy took 30 mins to change an inner tube, a girl was just there to sell bikes, some part timers were okay but couldn't really be bothered in general. I ended up doing most of their stuff most of the time. The actual bike mechanic guy was only in twice a week, had a massive backlog of bikes to fix/repair which most he can't repair on the spot cos it needed replacement parts which we can't order until we contact the customer. Then we wait for the parts to come in, however long that was. While the parts were on their way we took in more repairs that the mechanic doesn't actually look at until he comes in. At one point we had about 3 weeks of repairs booked in that took the following 2 months to get rid of due to waiting for customers to contact us back, waiting for parts, tracking down parts, waiting for mechanic to come in twice a week etc etc.

I also hated the Apollo bikes Halfords sell. Majority were just plain scrap metal, I really didn't like selling them to customers. So many Apollo bikes I've pulled out of boxes brand new that had something wrong with them that needed replacing. There was one model, Apollo Slant I think it was, so many of them I've setup where the BB threads will strip when I tightened it and so many came back with dead BBs. That's just one example. The Carreras, Voodoos and Boardmans were much better to deal with though, actually looked forward to setting them up.

Only good thing about working there was Mcdonalds was next door, I couldn't wait for lunchtimes everyday. I think I've only bought something from there 4/5 times in the 4 months I worked there.

Oh man there's more I can go on about but I can't be fooked to type anymore. f**k that place.

Our mechanic wasn't too bad, he did a lot of work but a lot of the time he rushes it and I ended up fixing a lot of his errors.

Didn't get paid enough for the amount of stress, really shitty hours. Managers at my store used to tell us all to do work while they f**ked around doing nothing and getting paid more, and encouraging me to lie to customers about quality of bikes and parts and stuff and half the time I used to tell them how low quality everything is and to buy something slightly decent like a carrera/boardman/poodoo.

Been working there since november dan so that's a fair while isn't it?

Oh man, the goddamn sales targets too. Expected to sell a £20 bike care plan and bike accessories with every bike we sell and a can of GT85. Manager set us stupid targets that was unreachable and I've had to sit down and talk my sales performance multiple times about a bike care plan no one actually wants.

Halfords is quite store dependant and I'm quite lucky to have a decent one I guess, they don't really care if you don't hit sales targets at mine. Just as long as you don't get complaints.

I've been really honest with how shit Trax bikes are to customers and I had one bloke say "Ah well its cheap it'll keep me fit" and I just sighed and said "if that's what you're happy with then go for it" as nicely as I could.

Plus cause I'm deaf I can blag not taking phone calls, I can pass customers onto another colleague if I want to haha. And they've just built me a repair bay out back so they said I can repair bikes there without customer interaction if I want but to be honest I think dealing with customers makes the time go by quickest especially when you get regulars who just love to chat.

Oh and on top of that, everyone gets on with eachother so well. Two of the managers at my store did burnouts when we left the other day, a guy who works checkout rides his bmx in the store when it's quiet. And a mechanic who works with me goes on about insane car stories and the motorsport projects he's working on we could talk for hours. I could go on, but I genuinely believe it's very store dependant.

The only real downside to my store is the manager of bikehut has major mood swings and I'd say the job is only stressful when he's stressed. He took it out on me the other day and I accidentally gave him silent treatment and he came up to me and said "sorry I wasn't having a go at you, the more I nag you you'll get it in your head and learn quicker". I just laughed and said fair enough.

I'll stop going on now, but yeah, love my store, pay could be better but doesn't feel like a job so alls good.

Happy because this week without my parents here as they're on holiday has really made me realise how much I would f**king love living on my own. It's so so fun. As sad as it seems but I really enjoy my own company. I'm f**king hilarious. Last part was a joke, but it has been awesome. I keep the house f**king pristine, such a clean freak it's unreal.

New casual staff guy at work didn't bother calling in to let manager know that he's "sick" for the last 2 days. The twat spouts more shit from his mouth than his arse, probably won't be giving him anymore hours which makes me happy. Plus I just went on Facebook and he posted a status saying he went to Andover, even though he told another casual staff that he had "family matters". So gonna bring it up if he ever comes in again.

You remind me so much of Jon Richardson...
