Luke Rainbird
Many like that have a half-inch drive square cutout to use with a socket/breaker; does yours? Can be a pain for sure though.
MadManMike
I've got three different bb tools and none of them do. They're all slightly different, but equally as shit.
weirdoku
I always get things that I can use with my foot long 1/2" drive t-bar. Two BB tools and a few common size hex bit sockets I use. Worth investing in some!
MadManMike
I just put it in a vice at work and used the frame for leverage. Even with that much leverage it didn't want to move!
Ross McArthur
Did you remove everything else on the bike before you tried the BB removal? If I dont have a stand, I do the cranks and BB first.
MadManMike
Yup the BB was the last thing to remove. In hindsight, I should have done that first...
forteh
I just put it in a vice at work and used the frame for leverage. Even with that much leverage it didn't want to move! This was a brand new bike wasn't it? You haven't accidentally tightened the BB previously? Could have cold welded the threads up because I bet they weren't greased on assembly! You could try shocking the threads to clear them. Mount the frame drive side down on a solid surface, ideally the frame needs to be supported as close to the BB shell as possible, blocking it up on bits of wood should be sufficient if it's all stable. Use a decent weight hammer and good solid drift (steel bar with a flat end - the heavier the better because it adds inertia to the strike) and tap the BB cartridge from non drive through to drive side as if trying the smash it out of the frame. The axial shock loading on the threads can help break any thread lock or fretting/galling that is on the threads. I have also had far more success with tight BBs when using two hands on a double sided T-bar than a single sided spanner; if need be go buy a socket and 1/2" drive bar to do it. If you have someone you trust with the hammer you can try axially striking the T-bar/socket/BB tool/BB cartridge whilst you apply constant torque, you need to be holding the tooling solid though because last thing you want to do is lunch the splines! MadManMike
Just realised how badly I worded that. It did go in the end, but it took a lot of persuasion. Sorry for wasting your time typing all that out! (And thanks for the advice, I'm sure I'll have to use that at some point.)
Jolfa
Staying in a 4 bed dorm at the moment, place is nice enough, clean, not overly noisy most of the time, privacy dividers, BUT the beds creak like you wouldn't believe. One of the beds is occupied by a Japanese girl who I think might have more limbs than she should and does not stop moving, like ever. She also appears to require a dozen different kinds of cosmetic wipe and cream (mainly Hello Kitty brand) and has these laid out in the bathroom, where she also appears to be shedding her winter coat all over the floor/walls/toilet. She also likes to leave the bathroom light on if she goes to the toilet in the night, which means the worlds loudest extractor fan (exaggeration, I just tend to sleep better without a heavy droning motor a few meters away) stays on with it. That might be ok if it was to reduce any angry odour and she perhaps switched it off shortly after but no, she just goes back to thrashing around in her bed performing the 1000 rusty gate hinge symphony. Tonight could be the night I smother her in her sleep. If she does actually sleep, I don't know. Also the girl on reception is a bitch, decided that it now costs $2 to validate my parking ticket, whilst this is only £1, on principle I refused to pay it as this is a rule she has introduced today, that none of her colleagues would back her up on, with no prior notice. She validated it eventually for free, and now gives me a really sarcastic smile whenever I pass through reception, which must be uncomfortable for her to strain from her resting bitch face. I think I'll move hostel Also I can't find a job, nobody wants people on a working holiday visa, Australians with zero enthusiasm or customer service skills are far more desirable. And it's pretty much rained solid for 2 weeks since I came to the east coast. This is not what I signed up for.

MadManMike
Or do it the British way and get completely f**ked up then pass out in bed / at the front door / on a random bin somewhere.
Tony Harrison
Staying in a 4 bed dorm at the moment... ... Also I can't find a job, nobody wants people on a working holiday visa, Australians with zero enthusiasm or customer service skills are far more desirable. And it's pretty much rained solid for 2 weeks since I came to the east coast. This is not what I signed up for. Dorms can really suck. If you're on your own then they can be a great way to meet people, but getting a good nights sleep is often out of the question. Had so many experiences in hostels, and met so many different types of people. The Asian travellers are often the most curious - some of them are just plain odd and they don't seem to want to socialise, and hide in their beds with laptops. Most annoying are the big groups of drunk people who come back at 4am and put the light on and shout about the night they just had. These days I avoid them, but I know Australia is expensive for accommodation. As for the job hunting, stick at it. Some things I feel just aren't meant to be easy, but do pay off in the end. Joe Sheehan
Regarding a job if you get really stuck, relocate to perth and then you'll find a $25/hr job easy. Then save with that to go east coast if it's just seeing the east coast that you wanna do. Where abouts are you staying? I'll have words with any friends if I can help. Dependant on what job you are after, you'll have much better luck with casual work. Getting your RSA certificate and then applying for a bottleshop or bar job is by far the easiest way to make quick dollars! Jolfa
We've just come here from Perth got an RSA and have applied for every bar, restaurant, hotel, club, shop, cafe, basic as f**k job I can find to no avail. Perhaps I'm just being impatient... We're in Brisbane CBD if you do know anyone who knows anyone though!
Joe Sheehan
Have you been into said restaurants and bars? That was key for me. I could sit and apply for jobs all day online and not hear one thing back. But I went to three local bottlo's and got 2 job trials and one of those led to a job. Face to face is key! I'll have an ask about as I've got probably 150+ friends on my feeds in and around australia so someone is bound to help!
