The Angry Thread.

Plenty of ways to avoid signing a ZHC and still claim JSA, mainly by being the best candidate for a job which doesn't have a ZHC.

You deserve a longer reply than I can be arsed to give, so I'm going to do my Duncan Bannatyne impression on this one and agree to disagree.

If a non ZHC job is there.

My time on benefits in Hastings wasn't because I was being picky, there was no jobs I could actually get - like Mark said, I was massively overqualified to get a job serving at a McDonalds hatch, there was tons of college leavers that would get those jobs.

The first thing you'd get asked in an interview would be "When you've been customer services manager and other similar roles, why have you decided to serve fast food from a window?"

There's no chance.

I do think a lot of people in this thread don't understand, probably because they've never needed the system. Whether through timing, luck or having a very supportive family or partner. For me there was no other choice, at that time. I only needed it for a short time, but I definitely needed it.

Yeah, definitely, but for a large amount of people that isn't going to be possible when a lot of new jobs created rely on ZHCs, not to mention you don't really get the option of what you can/can't go for as such. To claim JSA you have to apply for a certain amount of jobs per week, and if one of those jobs offers you a placement using a ZHC then if you don't accept you get a sanction of 3 months ("Higher level sanctions – imposed if a jobseeker refuses to take a position without good reason or leaves a position voluntarily – will lead to a loss of benefits for 13 weeks on the first occasion, 26 weeks on the second occasion and 156 weeks on the third occasion). You can also get sanctioned for not "applying for jobs you're told about" by you're adviser, but these in turn can be totally unsuitable for you (plenty of anecdotal evidence for this from highly skilled/educated people on JSA).

It's not just a system where you can cherry-pick what jobs you want which is partially necessary to avoid people abusing the system, but again is flawed in the way it operates. It essentially means a flawed system is feeding people into a flawed employment scenario, and there's very little the people involved can do about it.

Speaking of the military, benefits and sanctions, this is pretty good timing: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/david-cameron-left-furious-andrew-5551652#ICID=sharebar_twitter

Unfortuantly one of a growing number to die because of goverments sanctions.

I could write a lot about this subject but don't have time atm but I will say to the 'get a f**king job' bunch that although that works on an individual level, (as in anyone can get a job) it dosen't work when you talk about everyone on benefits because there simply aren't enough jobs. I think the last figures I saw where 2.5 million unemployed (not including people who are on ZHC and effectively unemployed) and 400,000 jobs for them to apply for and that figure is only going to get worse as more jobs are able to be done better by machines. Also although working hard is a large part of furthering yourself and making yourself more employable, and there are certainly lazy people out there who don't want to work and just rely on the state, some people are born more with more pontential than others and if your one of the more capable ones then just be glad your lifes going better than other peoples and have some f**king compassion. People talk about people scrounging off the goverment as if there having an easy ride but being on JSA isn't exactly fun.

If I can do that, these c**ts on benefits and zero hour contracts can get off their lazy arses and go do some f**king work. Because clearly having the time to do it isn't the issue.

Literally, f**k them. Let them starve to death in their shitty council bedsits, they'll soon find a way to go and earn some money then.

Yea they will go earn some money, but if they couldn't get a job before (if there in the majority that are trying to find work) then there not going to be able to get one once you cut them off so they will have to get the money through crime which is a much bigger cost to society than paying there benefits as is housing them in prison if they get caught.

This is what gets me most about the sanctions execpt for the people that die from sanctions I don't see how people see it as cost saving for society. Its an ideological attack on the poor that dosen't even make sense, as with the whole of the goverments austerity package. Austerity is bad for the economy which has been proven and yet the cuntcervatives just keep going with it even though all they seem to care about is the economy (or at least its the only subject david cameron use's to answer any given question he's asked). To quote a smarter/more knowledgable man than myself (talking about the US but apply's here as well) 'we're either going to do that, and start walking back the last thirty years or we're going to keep going the way we're going at which point there will be enough people standing on the outside of this mess that somone's going to pick up a brick, because when people get to the end there's always the brick.' David Simon (from this, well worth a watch)

I'm seriously worried about where this country is going to be in five years if this country is stupid enough to vote the conservatives back in in may.

We just arrived in Sydney after a weeks driving, I'd booked a hostel I found on hostelworld that had good reviews, near the city center.

We arrived in what turns out to be the red light district, friendly enough guy explains the room is messy but not dirty, fair enough, hands us our sheets.

Get to the room, wind howling through the building, one mattress is stained to f**k, the other looks like a completely knackered old gym mat and the clean sheets he'd given us were stained with f**k knows what, something reddy/brown, makeup at the very best. The 4 current residents looks like they'd just unzipped their bags, emptied them into the middle of the room and kicked the contents around a bit, rubbish everywhere, empty crisp bags and bottles all over the floor, under the bed on top of the one shared wardrobe (in a tiny 8 bed dorm?!).

The place also has a resident pet dog that my girlfriend liked the idea of, she loves dogs, she didn't get to meet it but it was a pitbull that didn't like me.

We checked out 10minutes later and forfeited a nights stay, it was worth every penny of that $56 to not have to stay there a moment longer.

Guy saw straight through our polite excuse, said it's not the best room... But not the worst! Asked if we wanted to stay the one night as we'd paid anyway? No, no we did not.

Oh my f**king god.

Went out to attempt a KOM on Strava, attempt one put me at all time 3rd for this really short segment. Second attempt ruined by this twat who didn't indicate or check his mirrors before turning. That was my closest ever to t-boning a car.
