Pete.M
Crashed Solidworks twice by 9am. I'm really good at this, I should be a software tester. Nearly squeezed in 5 crashes by 9am today. Aiming for 15 by 10am. Best day ever. F**k SolidWorks Save a file > SolidWorks crashes Close a file > SolidWorks crashes Run a simulation > Solidworks crashes Load a window > SolidWorks crashes Try to live a normal fulfilling life > NOPE, SolidWorks crashed again. It doesn't even give you the option to "wait for a response". It just immediately quits with no warning and for no obvious reason. Apologies for going on and on about SolidWorks. I'm having another one of those days. Think I might actually be on for a personal best in terms of number of crashes. Seriously don't know how I have such a bad time with this piece of shit software. forteh
I think you need to consider you hardware and software environment, solidworks is super stable for us here Is it specific to the models you're working on or is it universal? What hardware/software are you running it on and what version of SW? Edited February 19, 2015 by forteh
Pete.M
It's a universal problem but obviously with simple models I'm less likely to have any problems. I think it's partly the version that's the issue. For a reason that's difficult to explain, I'm using 2012/13 Education Edition, and the licence is accessed through a VPN. Wouldn't be surprised if the external licence was part of the problem. My hardware is very good. SolidWorks doesn't tend to "hang" as if the computer is struggling, it just immediately quits and says "SolidWorks has encountered an error and has had to shut down". forteh
Stop f**king around and get the proper local license sorted How come you're using the educational version? Are you in a multi user environment? If so are your libraries shared? Have you done a registry reset to see if that alleviates the problem? What gpu are you using? Are you using certified drivers for the gpu? 2012/13 was rock solid for us as well but we don't use a shared external license. Edited February 19, 2015 by forteh
Pete.M
Not a multi-user environment and no shared library, but yeah the licence is shared. I think I checked that the drivers are certified, might do that again as I guess I'm using a pretty new computer with older software. Can't get the gpu model at the moment. The company has the licence for the normal version, but it's currently only on one computer which is used by the draughtsman. I'm doing a "Knowledge Transfer Partnership" whereby a University effectively partners up with a company, so I've been given access to the University's external licence, which might've actually been updated to 2013/14 but need to check. They never have the latest version available on the external licence. What I really need to do is figure out how to install the company's 2015 version alongside the older education version so I can run both. There must be a way to do that. forteh
Multiple installs of sw is fine, it installs as a separate program altogether. As long as there is a license spare in the pool to run yours on you won't have any difficulties Multiple installs of sw is fine, it installs as a separate program altogether. Luke Rainbird
Install Server 2011 on old laptop to play around with/learn to set up for dad's office setup. Connect laptop to test access. All working fine so disconnect to revert to normal and watch film. Reboot to workgroup rather than domain only to find laptop completely wiped of all my shit. f**king fuming. Thank f**k for running a second media drive storing music, files, films etc. Not happy! Muel
That sucks. I used to use Server 2012 and had similar experiences. Everything Microsoft has done (apart from W7) has been genuinely shit if you ask me. Seriously losing my rag with their new shit at the moment at work.I have to test in W8, W8.1 and W10 and it's worse than farting around testing on multiple phones. f**king mind numbing. Also losing my rag with learning to drive this evening. I don't like cars much, I hate driving them and really f**king hate spending all my money on lessons. Guess I have to have the license though in order to pull trailers full of motorbikes around. Luke Rainbird
That must utterly suck! I've managed to rescue most of it due to backups and some weird shit it seemed to do with user accounts but it's all a bit of a bodge. Will be working from a spare (and old/utterly shite) tower tomorrow!

bikeperson45
I have an internal interview tomorrow and had two online test things to do beforehand. One was fine, the other was pretty horribl;. 75 seconds to read a 372 word passage and then comprehension questions was tough. So now I'm worried about how I did in that. Tony Harrison
Guess I have to have the license though in order to pull trailers full of motorbikes around. That's the only reason I'll ever buy a car (or van!) again!
Little Yoshi
Was the snowman rally on Saturday. My dad started as number 65, after the first stage he had climbed to 25th overall and was leading his class by 40 seconds. In stage two he hit a half buried steel water tank on the inside of a corner. He caught it just inside of his near side front whee, stopped him pretty much dead and flipped the car onto it's roof within 10 feet of hitting it. Car is a write off, the engine block might be salvageable along with the prop, diff and rear axel. Everything else I think is fecked. It was such a nice mk2 escort.
Luke Rainbird
Any way to get a quick id in a day? How far is the airport from home? You may well find that the quickest way to get a legit ID is going to be post/driving it over but obviously that's not going to be cheap. Luke Rainbird
Not ideal, but cheaper than having to drive it. If you don't need it urgently today then no biggy

MadManMike
A day after I receive my new phone, my company tell me they're going to replace my broken work phone - I hassled them for two weeks and was told no. They better f**king reimburse me for my 12 month contract and the cost of the phone I just bought. Also, I came in to work yesterday to see an email from someone telling a load of people in the US that I'll be doing X, Y and Z after "Internal discussion" - did they want to f**king discuss it with me first? bikeperson45
Screenshot that shit, unless you're actually doing at at the place you want to work! The timer would have kept going. It was only towards the end I thought 'I can't do this, might as well see how many words it is so I can accurately complain about it' Did the interview though and apparently I'm the only applicant that actually did the tests..... Pahaha is that for real? That's going to give you a pretty considerable advantage! The other applicants could be applying for hundreds of jobs with no intention of getting them, for job seekers or something like that.. Why would you not do the tests?
