Where as older carbon methods used the carbon weaved sheets. The new UD carbon has less resin between the carbon material making it much stronger. And carbon holds its strength in the direction which it is layed much like trees take a slice from a tree trunk try to snap it against the grain and its very strong but go along It its very weak.
