Geo Decision...

First of all, I hope you're happy now moderator

So I wan't to buy a new frame, I've recently started to do alot of street (mostly front wheel moves) tricks and mix them up with some pure trials.

The frame I now have has a wheelbase of 1005mm and a bb rise of 85+.

The frame I really want has a wheelbase of 1035mm and a bb rise of 80mm. I'm a bit intrested in a frame with a wheelbase of 1010mm and a bb rise of 70mm.

The question is: Would the 1035mm wheelbase be a huuge difference to me in a negative way? Or would I be positive?

And what geo do YOU thing suit me the best out of these frames? All help is appreciated!

Cheers!

wheelbase is pretty much the most useless thing to base decisions on how a frame will feel. You need to know the reach, that's what makes a bike feel long or short, then the head angle plays an important part too.

Really?

And how the hell do I know the reach haha? :o And how does the headangle change the way a frame feels like, I mean how would a 70 HA compare to a 72?

Cheers!

Reach is centre of BB to centre of the top of the headtube. Normally listed on Tarty for frames I think, and you can measure yours to see how it compares.

HA wise, steeper is quicker but twitchy if you go too far, and can help you get over the front wheel too.

So how how does a long reach compare to a short?:)

Jesus I'm really bad at this..

long reach makes it harder to lift the front wheel (worse for bunnyhops) but gives you more room to move so a bit better for TGS.

Head angles begin to complicate things a little, it depends where you are pivoting from. You can keep the same reach and pivot the head angle out from the top of the headset to make it steeper and shorten the wheel base, you can pivot from the front axle and keep the same wheel base but shorten or lengthen the reach, or you can pivot from the bottom headset cup which give/takes a little from both reach and wheelbase.

Personally I'm a fan of long reach and shorter wheelbase combined with a short stem, not quite sure how well that works with mods as it's hard to get a short stem for them.

Of course you can't forget bb height as the higher it is the shorter it makes the reach and lower means longer.

So I think my zoot has a bb of 30, which I take it makes the reach quite 'long'?

Is this why people recommend having a smaller stem (been recommended 90x25 or 90x35)?

Sorry to pester you, I just find geo's hard to grasp haha
