Hoffmann Meets Lehmann - Video.

Laurence--Trials

Recommended Posts

Good find that one Laurence (Y) Hoffman's moves to front wheel always look so bizarre, I have never seen anyone get into the position he does :S I saw him do an up to front like that in one of the videos of the Cologne trial jam and thought he was just messing around, but he obviously wasn't :D

I've gotta say it......that bar angle is doing nothing for his riding other than ruining his style. Some riders can get away with it and still look fairly normal (Carthy) but he can't. The mod rider looked fairly good though (and he didn't have a silly forward bar angle), that hook to sidehop is pretty serious.

Have to agree with you there Ali, that bar angle makes his riding style look pants :D Lehmann is a sick rider though.

my theory...

if you've seen carthy, you know he's tall guy. not tall overall, but he has a tall upper body. I guess that's the reason why he, and some other riders with either a long torso or perfect technique can benefit from that bar angle.

Why so many tilt their bars... I don't know.

ok... It's because Carthy and Gilles do it

Nah, thats not why I do it. Personally, I do it to give me a more upright position on the back wheel, and it makes it much easier to hold on the back wheel too :)

ok... that's gonna be hard to explain, since I'm not a native speaker.

I understand what you are saying.

But I'd rather adjust my bar in a way that affects the move itself, not the "build-up" to the move.

For example:

I'd say a stretched rear wheel stance gives an advantage for sidehops. It gives you that last bit of "snap" at the take-off when pulling your legs towards the bars.

That gets lost when you tilt your bars that way.
