williams
heeeeeeeeey! So, I snapped my disc tab on my because color 20", and are now looking for a new frame. So I basically wan't to know the general rule of how a long wheelbase and a short wheelbase feels like, and what's better for what. Cheeeeers! EDITED BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION AND MADE A NEW TOPIC. Edited November 27, 2012 by williams
Lewis Gething
Sorry to hear your Because snapped dude! As far as wheelbases, the longer you go, the more leverage you have for moves like gaps, so you will be able to gap further as a result. Long wheelbases come at the expense of a loss of flickiness. Short wheelbases are obviously easier to move around, but you lose some power and may feel cramped. If you want a streety tgs mod frame but still want to be able to ride some pure trials, I would recommend you look for a frame which is no longer than 1020wb. Depends if you can deal with the sluggishness of a long wb

Depends if you can deal with the sluggishness of a long wb The thing I find fun is that tarty won't give me a new frame because my downtube is pretty scrachted from some attemps to get up a rock, while the rest of the frame looks like new, chainstay etc! I give tarty a thumb down for the first time. I've haven't been riding it for more than 4 months. And the reason is that the frame is "well used", but what has that to do with my pretty much unused disc tab... Alright man, cheers for the info! The frame I'm in love with is the neon bow, but I'm a bit doubtful to the quality... And that the wheelbase is a massive 1035mm!

That wasn't my point, but if he wan't to say that I'm unable to maintain my bike he's more than welcome to. But lets get back to the topic, shouldn't we? Mark W
I meant that the story you've given about what's been said between you and Adam misses out a few points. Specifically regarding your disc mount breaking, there was a reason that Adam wanted to see the inside of the piece that broke off. We had an idea what that piece would look like where the bolt had been, and it looked exactly as we thought it would. Anyway, it's a Friday night and I've got better things to do for the next couple of hours, but I just wanted to say something before some of the usual TF suspects start talking shit. In terms of long WB vs short WB it's a fairly 'personal preference' sort of thing (I hate short WB mods for everything but quite like longer WB mods). Loosely you can categorise them as being shorter WB mods being more suited to natural/compy style stuff, with longer WB mods being a bit better suited to street/TGS type stuff. But yeah, there's no real hard and fast rule. If you liked how your Because felt then I guess getting something similar would be a good bet. I can't really see what I missed:) As I said in the mail the bolt where super tight, so the theory of that my disc adapter bolt being to loose is not true. I'm a bit shocked over this too. I don't want to talk shit about you and say that you're a bad company etc just because im not quite happy now, because tarty is not a bad company. And thanks for ansvering my question! BradJohnson
it looked exactly as we thought it would. Over tightend with out using washers?
williams
Over tightend with out using washers? nope It's not overtightened, and I had washers.
Mark W
Caliper/adaptor bolts do come loose though, so them initially being tight doesn't really mean all that much. Stan built up a mod and the caliper bolts (for some reason) kept coming loose over the first few rides. The inside of the mount being as mashed as it was and the way it broke all added up to the caliper bolts being loose, so when you braked it was just ragging the bolt up and into the underside of the mount where it broke. Again, that's why we wanted to see the inside of the mount where it broke. If it had been tight (and kept tight) it wouldn't have been as deformed as it was. Similarly, there are a few riders out there with dual disc Because frames that haven't broken like that. EDIT: Brad - no. EDIT #2: And again, this isn't the full ins and outs of it all... It had locktight on it, so for me I can't really see it being loose...
dezmtber
Shame to hear about the disc mount issues. The neon x ray has a similar geo to what you want. Though a bit lower bb. Surely tartys will sort you out a good deal if you buy your new frame there,

williams
Quality is about the same as because since it´s sister company. So how good is it then? I have no clue about because quality.. EDIT: You have a good general knowledge about trial stuff! I would say you have good first hand experience But on a serious note, they aren´t too bad for that price, so you just can´t expect koxx quality for neon price. Still best price/quality ratio has to go to echo though, so maybe save a little more money and buy that instead?

This will also help members who have the same question as your original post should they perform a search, now however it will be of no use to anyone.
